I'm Just a Bill (on Google Maps)

by Chris Remo, Feb 27, 2006 1:30pm PST

If you keep up with all the constant legislation targeting games and the games industry, you're probably familiar with Game Politics, a site which does an excellent job tracking all those shenanigans. Last week, Game Politics added a new service to the site: the Video Game Legislation Watch. By way of Google Maps, the Legislation Watch displays a geographical representation of video game laws that have passed, failed, or been proposed in the United States. Game Politics plans to keep it updated regularly as legislation evolves.

Thanks to the miracle of Google Maps, GamePolitics is now able to offer to readers Legislation Tracker, an interactive map featuring current video game bills and laws. This is a level of service we've been eager to add to GP for a long time.

Our Legislation Tracker is also the only visual resource of its type for proposed laws regarding video games. We believe this tool will be of benefit to anyone interested in the kind of information we cover here on GamePolitics. We encourage you to bookmark the map and refer friends and colleagues.

The tracker indicates whether each piece of legislation is in process, passed, dead, or simply a political promise. Each one also has a summary of information and who is attempting to pass the law. It is currently currently US-only, and certainly the United States seems to have more video game-related legislation than most other countries, but Game Politics does plan to branch out internationally to fill the rest of the map.
