The Movies Stunted Growth on Computer & Video Games offers up some info (out of a recent PC Gamer issue) on the previously mentioned expansion pack for The Movies, which has the working title of Stunts & Effects. As you'd expect with a name like that, the expansion pack features laser, water, smoke and electrical effects, while also offering new set pieces for big time stunts. New sets will be included as well, and supposedly the advanced movie-making mode will get an overhaul as well. No release date was mentioned.

Hope they expand the lot size and allow for more henchmen/employees, 'cause I have no idea where all these new sets and stuntmen are gonna go.

When this game came out I heard and saw a lot about it (mostly the make a movie mode) and then nothing. What was the final word/consensus on it?
