Valve Has Another Episode
by Chris Remo, Feb 21, 2006 12:29pm PSTNot long after announcing that the first episodic Half-Life 2 followup would be called Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Valve has now confirmed that Episode 2 is also in the works. Valve's Robin Walker revealed to Computer and Video Games that the game "has been in development for some time." No details have yet been made available, but Walker did share some brief tidbits regarding Episode 1.
Discussing the challenge of penning the plot for the episode in comparison to penning the plot for Half-Life 2, Walker said that the developer has had "to be considerate to our audience in terms of giving them what they want". While "Episode 1 will not end with an all-encompassing conclusion", it will address some specific questions, he revealed: "For example, "What happened to the Citadel at the end of Half-Life 2?" and "What happened to Breen, is he dead?" and "How does the G-Man factor into all of this?"There is no projected release date for Episode 2. Half-Life 2: Episode 1 is currently expected to release April 24, 2006.

*raises hand*
Definitely... I can just remember the ending, which I was a wee bit miffed by (mostly because they ended on such an ugly explosion texture), and some of the coastal bits. The plot fragments were vague, but I liked the scattered nature of the clues as to how Gordon came to be where he was and how the world looked as it did.
I still say that you were actually on an alien planet colonising it would have been an excellent twist to HL2 though.

Tell us TF2 is cancelled, or tell us you are still working on it, but don't treat us like idiots and hope that we just forget you kept telling us we'd have info on it 'soon'

Nobody complains too much for a game that gives ya 20+ hrs of single play goodness at the average $50.
With these episode deals, we'll be paying upwards close to $100. Assuming they'll stick with the trend of $20 per release, and each episode is roughly 3-4 hours of play time.

Yes, there is CS:S and DOD:S, but I doubt the bulk of the studio was put into those also.
So what *is* Valve working on next? I'm quite sure it's got something to do with advanced facial animation since they hired Bay Raitt, the facial lead on Gollum in LotR. That and imaged based rendering (kinda like HDR) where objects at a certain distance get rendered as 2D planes, which is effectively a real-time skybox rendering system. Gigantic sized maps could be made from this, but it doesn't lend itself to (previous) gameplay of TF2, where the maps were much more confined--less Battlefield, more CS.
So my guess is they're on TF2, or they're moving along with the next big engine upgrades for HL3 and the content it will require.
But most likely, it's TF2.
:)

Wait, that was John Cook.
Robin, seriously, TF2. This is what everyone wants to know...
HL2 is good. Nice that you guys have found a new and healthy cow to milk from but really. TF2 is a legacy that should be considered. It really has great appeal. The original ideas for it were awesome at the moment. Many games (Wolf ET, BF 1942 and 2) have follow suit, why on earth is ther NO NEWS whatsoever?
It's a slap in the face to most fans of online gaming who have been along the ride for many years now. I might be a lonely voice here but there is a considerable portion of gamers online who have lived through the QWTF era and are acking for a true sequel to it. There have been great games released since TF2 was announced but TF still remains one of the founding fathers of online gaming (especially Team based FPS games which are so in vogue nowadays =)
Come on people! Let's rally up.
GIVE US SOME TF2 NEWS!

Can you tell how bad I want TF2? ;)
But whateverm I'll still buy them no matter the amount of time they take :)
My dedicated server was allowed to download all necessary assets without an account, so perhaps required assets can be dynamically fetched to non-owners running custom maps, but I doubt they'll allow it, much less program for it. The SDK has enough longstanding problems as it is...

I say bring it on.
My only dissapointment was that apparently we'll be playing freeman again and not Alyx as had been originally discussed.

Personally, I'm hoping for more Strider action.

But given that it took them eons to deliver a one-level expansion (Lost Coast) I'm sure Sin: Episodes will beat them to the punch
