That article in ER confuses me. Is internet gambling illegal because the government isn't getting taxes (because they haven't made the laws?) or because the government wants to enforce morality on people?
Side note: I visited Niagara Falls with two guys from India and we stopped by a casino to see what the fuss was all about. The casino was huge and the outside was lit up with crazy lights. The inside was again huge with ritzy decorations, etc. Then there are like hundreds of slot machines and people are just sitting there smoking a cigarette or drinking. Often they would have a card inserted into the slot and the card was attached with a wire to their purse or pants (to prevent theft of the card, which appears to be like a debit card). Fucking depressing as hell. Still, if those people want to waste hours in a smoke filled room with flashy lights while they throwing their money away- it's not the government's job to make sure everyone is working on a cure for cancer.

So I'm trying to play a little Saturday morning GTA: San Andreas, and all of sudden things get really laggy. I'm talking noticably choppy. And I start thinking, "Shit! Not my video card dying again! I will never buy ATI again!" and then all of a sudden the game just locks up and minimizes. And I'm presented with this nice message:
Windows has Completed Updating
Restart Now -or- Restart Later
WTF!?!?! WTF was Microsoft thinking?!? I'm trying to play a game and they go interrupting me, steal my processor power, and try to force a damn update down my throat? What if I had been doing something important, like using my computer to take lab data to cure cancer. Would that have been acceptable, then? Hell no!
The kicker is, I click "Restart Later" and silently give Bill Gates the middle finger from my room, and ten minutes later the game minimizes again and I get the same message.
Why have they crossed the line into such bull-shittery? Is it really that hard to write an intelligent auto-updater?
*Flips Microsoft both middle fingers*

I'm getting married in April and am trying to finalize the list of booze I need to purchase for said event. Here's what I have so far:
The last thing I need to decide on is what kind of white wine to buy. We'll be serving it as a table wine, so it really shouldn't be that fancy... the (red) Yellowtail Shiraz we're getting will probably come out to $4/bottle, once per-case pricing is factored in.

So...we had to make a webpage for our EDIT202 class, and I made a...well...*I* thought it was an awesome webpage. Anyhow, I looked at my marks today, and it was all like: "INCOMPLETE." So I'm like: "WTF, my webpage was awesome. I went above and beyond the call of duty," so I check the assignment submission notes, and I see this:

Got a new HDD and put it in as the master drive, and my old one as the slave. Sadly the Win2k installer saw the old drive as C: so my main drive (the new one) which my computer boots off is F:
Not too much of a problem since everything seems to work, but when I tried to rename the drives Windows refused to let me change F: >:( I just like my main disk to be C: :(
What I think I could do is change C: to G:, and then boot off G: with F: as a slave, and then change F: to C: and switch them back. I have no idea if this will work though, has anyone ever done this?
Also if you know how the change the drive letter of the HDD you boot off of without all this tomfoolery, that would be most helpful too, thanks.

This shit is weird, okay:
Sometimes when I try to copy a file over (typically a video file) to another folder, says its in use and I get a 'no u' from my computer.
If I copy it over very quickly, like click+drag to another folder, it copies. But if I take too long dragging it over, it says its in use.

I´ve been playing around more with hdr and I don´t really like the fake looking "halo" effect photos everyones putting up on the flickr hdr pool (mostly software newbs). But the effect is awesome on cloudly landscape scenes.
Check out my flickr, I have a good example of how hdr can help in taking "normal" photos (stained glass in churches). All my photos in the barcelona set are HDR.

Is anyone else finding 3.4 a shit ton harder than 3.2? They've added shots getting warped around vortices when they are big, and they seem to have increased the speed of the green squares too.
I'm lucky if i can break 250,000 in 3.4 :(

What's up? Is this monitor dead?
Cost is a factor here, while performance probably isn't much of a big deal. He'll be doing pretty much nothing demanding with this beyond word processing and email. So even though I like MacBooks, I don't think that's a good fit.

Okay guys, I asked about SATA hard drives recently, and I finally got one... I picked up a Seagate 7200.9 250 GB, 8mb buffer for a really great deal from a local retailer.
Now I need to know how to configure my system.
Right now, I have Windows XP Pro and all my apps on my primary drive from before - a 160 GB ATA/133 7200 rpm Samsung. Great drive, but not SATA.
The 250 GB SATA drive I got is replacing my old 60 GB WD ATA drive... so basically, I need to know what to do... my two main options are.
1. Keep it mostly how it is. Apps + Windows on the 160 GB Seagate IDE, then store media (music, vids, pr0n) and run the swapfile off the 250 GB SATA drive.
2. Make the SATA my primary drive, and move Windows and apps over to that one and run the swapfile off the Samsung IDE drive, and use that for things like disc images (of my legitimate software, thank you. I hate digging through piles of CDs) and archives/backup and whatnot.
Which option would give me better performance? And if it's option 2, can I just use Partition Magic to copy the old partition over from the Samsung drive and then resize without having to reinstall? Or will I need to do more voodoo? If so, what is that voodoo? Or will I have to start fresh (which I don't feel like doing right now, but if I must...)?
Also, if neither of those is very smart in my configuration, please tell me what is.

The year is 2006. Please, please, please include 1680X1050 in your resolution options. I refuse to play Marc Ecko's: Getting Up because some genius decided to lock it so you can't go higher then 1024.
The game looks really cool too, and I'm dieing to play it, but I'm going to have to hold off until I can figure out where to change the setting in the config.

so I drove the 2 1/2 hours up to the nearest DMV near the guy, he had to drive about 15 minutes to get there. I got there at 10, when we were supposed to meet, and he said he'd be there soon. I called him back at 10:30, he said sorry and he's leaving soon. I called him back at 11:10, and he said he hasn't left yet, and he finally tells me that he can't drive the car because he lost his license, so he's waiting for his friend to come drive the car. This sounds shady as all fuck to me, so I say fuck it, tell him no deal, and left.
