Announcing a BATTLEFIELD 2}r SHACKBATTLE for Sunday, Feburary 19th, 2006, 9:00 PM EST!!

We'll be playing BF2 v1.2 at bf2.shackbattles.com - password is in themelon's profile.

So the new patch came out a few days ago, and I found myself actually enjoying playing on pubs for the first time in a while. I hope these new changes will translate into some excellent combat with shackers. I have the urge. I want have a shackbattle showdown. Winners take all, losers make emo posts.

When we have our BF1942 shackbattles, we use teamspeak for excellence in broadcasting Thanks, Rush and it gives our battles a whole new dimension. In my opinion, one of the best parts of shackbattling is chatting up my fellow shackers while hell itself rains down upon us.

Its a shame that BF2 doesn't have global team chat as a feature, but I won't complain too much since it does give us squad chat and squad leader respawn points, which are excellent additions to the Battlefield franchise.

So instead, I'll just offer up the teamspeak address for those who wish to utilize it. We'll be using rydogg1's server at ts.shackbattles.com - no password required. If you want to stick with the in-game voIP, that's cool, and if you want to the added depth of team-level communication, it'll be there for our use. I know I'll be on it bitching about something.

Also, we have no custom-made BF2 shack maps. What's up with that? I'm going to download the editor now and take a look at it. Maybe we can change that in the near future. I'll post a link for the editor for anyone else who is interested.

I hope to kill see you sunday. I'll bring my dragon style. We will fight in the rock garden.

In my on-going CS server saga, a couple of us admins broke away from a community because these community admins decided to be bloody idiots on the server during lunch today. We took the server, which I pay for, with us. This the response I received:

Helvetica, I will be consulting a lawyer, I highly advise you do the same. I have proof of you ripping the entire concept from this site.

This can turn really dirty especially when I get your employer involved for the time that you are supposed to be working and using company time. I can also get the server provider involved.

All I ask in return is that you have the IP changed, nothing else, you can run with our ideas as you have already. But as for changing the server IP, thats what I request.

It's a good thing I've been playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney so I know what do in court.

This Friday seems like a good time to start a greatest shackbattle moments thread! Simply tell us your favorite moment in a shackbattle for any game where you had a great game, or your team, or you saw something cool happen. Bonus for pics/divx of course! This is why we play these games so bring em on!

May 5, 2005 is my best moment that has evidence. This game is on Wake Island, playing as Axis. We are getting toasted the the whole game, partially because the allies got a HUGE early lead by jumping all the flags and we couldn't get many flags after that. After some work with our Navy I shifted to land and eventually got into the tank on the main island and went berserk. I was clearing our island while tank sniping the other island with great precision (basically suppressing the small island as a choke point while patrolling main.) Almost very infantry unit available was trying to anti-tank me it seemed. This whole time we are still struggling to catch up with the Allies but the Navy was able to hold a flag in the ocean while I held the main island, and, well, the screenshot tells the end story.

Why do some people hate game companies making WW2 games?

Are you mad that they are "wasting time" making games you don't like? What is the likelyhood that they would make a game in a setting you WOULD like if they stop making WW2 based games? If they were making games in another setting, they would lilkely feel a lot like the other games in that new genre/setting. Do you honestly think that game companies are getting suckered into unprofitable waters? What do you think drives publisher/developer decisions in most cases?

WW2, horror, sci-fi, modern warfare, and fantasy genres exist because ONE setting does not appeal to everyone. Video game companies are catering to needs/wants. If a particular company does not meet your desire, go elsewhere. Are you buying games you know you don't like?

My, last point is WW2 is a VERY popular setting in any medium. There are tens of thousands of books written on the subject. Around same numbers fought in the war so that means tens of thousands of gamers have grandparents that were in that war. There are THOUSANDS of movies based on it and more keep getting made.

Bottom line: I love variety of games and dislike a ton too. Your opinion matters, but exercise it in a productive way. Help make a mod to try and build a game YOU like. Discuss great game concepts with friends. And most importantly, support games in genres, styles, and fields that you love.

Damnit. Downloaded the Solaris 10 1/06 CD ISO files, and all four report "CRC corrupt" in WinRAR. It won't take me long to try downloading again, but I was all set to burn the CDs tonight and install tomorrow. Now this throws a wrench in the works.

Ok, another new computer issue - the boot up process on the A8N32-SLI Deluxe takes forever, because it gets stuck on the "Auto-detecting USB Mass Storage Devices" thing - when I unplug the 2405FPW's USB thingy, it boots very quickly.

Any idea on how to fix this problem?
