Mitnick Free Today
by Steve Gibson, Jan 21, 2000 2:19am PSTAlthough I personally never really followed the whole Kevin Mitnick thing, a number of people have sent in word that Mr. Mitnick is scheduled to be released from prison today. His probation prevents him from working with computers though without written consent which may be difficult to get depending on what he does. There is mention of him possibly doing PR jobs which would be strange to say the least. Imagine Mitnick selling modems for USRobotics saying "J00 C4N H4X0R B357 W1TH TH3S3!!!"

that looks better
Also CyberPunk is a good book, but only follows Mitnick up to the last time he was arrested (\'89?), but it follows his early years well with Roscoe and Susan Thunder.
#3, he wasn\'t hacking the pentagon.
#11 His first arrest was because of his friend, his other arrest was cause he pissed off Tsutomu.
Translation: He sat next to Bubba on the bus and..
Yeah, its is full of exaggerations. I\'m sure its a decent read, just don\'t take it as fact.
There was a book that was a much less biased retelling of the story, but I can\'t remember its name.
3com bought USRobotics about 2 years ago.
I\'ve been following this for about a year, and the shit Mitnick has gone through is scary.
The internet has grown by leaps and bounds because more people are on.
The underlying principle tcp/ip is still here. sure there are patches and upgrades to different operating systems, Do not be fooled into the fact that the internet has really changed from the core it is or you are in deep dark trouble. peace
you can get busted.

Not defending either side - I wonder what\'s to stop him from cruising over to his friends house and spending a few \"quality online minutes with MSN?\"
Even today there are maybe only 1000 good hackers out there who
can compromise secure systems and who code thier own tools.
Back when mitnick was caught there were less than a hundred of these Elite hackers. Oh and mitnick is only barred from computer use for 3 years. Which is still way too long. Maybe he will get his own column like Kevin Poulsen over at Zdtv...
