D&D Online Golden
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 13, 2006 7:30am PSTNot much of a surprise considering the February 28 release date has been set in stone for a while now, but Turbine today announced that Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach has gone gold. People who preorder the game will be able to start playing several days before the official release, and get a +1 in-game amulet for added defense during combat, as well as a 10 day beta pass (the beta ends February 20).

Why bother even making at an MMO if 95% of it is instanced? With no crafting there's not even an incentive for player interaction. It's nothing more than a single player game with glorified chat rooms (being the town hubs you meet at). The only reason they classify it as an MMO is to tack on a $15+ a month subscription fee. I suspect this game is going to die after people find out they're being ripped off and this was nothing more than a quick cashin for the D&D license name. Same goes for the LOTR game.

It's a pass imo.

Lets not allow instances to become some sort of norm...
MMO should be trying to move away of instances.

IMO they needed to work out the combat controls a little more. It felt like a mix of Rune's sword combat, but mixed with hit detection I could never figure out. I just kept missing most of the time.
