Shack Preview: Pursuit Force
by Chris Remo, Feb 03, 2006 11:55am PSTI got the chance to go hands on with Bigbig's upcoming PSP title Pursuit Force. It's a vehicular combat game that puts the system to good use, and is appropriate for a portable console. The game is pretty fun! Check it out.
The PSP has been a pretty racing-friendly system. It has games like Criteron's Burnout Legends, SCEE's Wipeout Pure, and Namco's Ridge Racer, all of which have been well received. Now, UK-based Bigbig Studios is bringing another car-centric game to the system, though it's not quite like the others. You still find yourself racing down what is basically a set "track," but your main concern is not so much reaching the end of the track first as it is shooting a bunch of outlaws in the face before they can reach the end of the track.

I disagree. When it's such a simple thing to pull off, it becomes just another part of the routine for completing a mission. Assuming you give up on shooting the cars up or you get on to one of the missions that has bullet-proof cars, and it's the only real way to progress. I can't suggest how to implement it to make it more fun whilst retaining the ease of use, but knowing that it's possible even if the car turns a 90 degree corner and yours crashes in to a wall is pushing it.
My biggest problem with it is that the longer missions are broken in to pieces (eg Rail shooting segment, driving segment, foot segment, driving segment), and there's no resume - you have to do it again from the start. It gets pretty frustrating, although in it's favour there's often another mission you can do, so rather than quit in frustratio there's the option to switch mission.
Ultimately, I traded it in because it got too repetitive. It's not terrible, but as a full price game it didn't really offer enough to make me want to finish it, or even replay any of the missions. Also, Smackdown vs Raw came out about two weeks later, so there was something worth trading it in for.
