Oblivion System Specs

by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 01, 2006 3:49pm PST

The Oblivion FAQ on the Elder Scrolls website has been updated, listing the game's system requirements. At the bare minimum you're going to need a 2Ghz CPU with 512mb of system RAM and a 128mb videocard compatible with DirectX 9.0. Recommended is a 3Ghz machine with a gig of RAM and a ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher-end video card. You'll also need 4.6GB free on your harddrive. Thanks Voodoo Extreme.

  • Once you have that information, and have read the Official system specs, you may be a little confused if your processor is not a Pentium 4; they only list "Pentium 4 2.0/3.0 GHz or equivalent." To attempt to alleviate confusion, here is a little guide. Just take out your calculator, and multiply either your AMD processor's "plus" rating, or the speed of your Intel processor in MHz, by the following numbers. The result would be what you should compare to the official system specs.
    o Celeron - 0.50
    o Celeron D - 0.80
    o Sempron - 0.85
    o Pentium 4 (no hyper-threading) - 0.90
    o AthlonXP - 0.95
    o Pentium 4 (with hyper-threading) - 1.00
    o Pentium 4 Extreme Edition - 1.10
    o Athlon64 - 1.15
    o Pentium D - Varies (anywhere from 1.00-1.20+)
    o AthlonX2 - Varies (anywhere from 1.15-1.35+)
    o Celerom M - 1.75
    o Pentium M - 1.85
o Athlon64 FX - 1.85 (clock speed, see below for exact numbers)
FX-51: ~4.0GHz (equal to an AMD 3700+, actually runs at 2.2GHz like the 3700+ San Diego)
FX-53: ~4.4GHz (equal to an AMD 4000+, actually runs at 2.4GHz like the San Diego 4000+)
FX-55: ~4.8GHz (equal to an AMD 4200+, actually runs at 2.6GHz)
FX-57: ~5.2GHz (equal to an AMD 4500+, actually runs at 2.8GHz)
FX-60: Varies (equal to a pair of FX-55s together)

    "Translated" official specs

Oddly enough, there seems to be some flaws with the official specs; while I (Nottheking) have PM'ed the developers on this issue and await to see this cleared up, for the sake of everyone, I have considered everything and made up this set of specs, that likely reflect what you'll need accurately, and in a more convenient way:
Minimum Playable: (least needed to be able to play the game half-decently)
    + Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz, Celeron 2.6GHz, AthlonXP 2000+, or Pentium M 1.2GHz
    + 512MB RAM
+ Any video card listed in the "low-end" category or better (see the "video card ranking list" at the bottom of this post)
+ Video card must have at least 128MB video RAM
    + Windows XP
    + 8X DVD-ROM/DVD burner drive
+ 4.6GB Hard drive space (full install?)
Recommended: (enough to play the game as it's envisioned)
    + Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz with hyper-threading, Celeron D 3.4GHz, AthlonXP 3200+, Athlon64 2800+, or Pentium M 1.73GHz
    + 1024MB (1GB) RAM
+ Any video card listed in the "high-end" category or better (see the "video card ranking list" at the bottom of this post)
+ Video card must have at least 128MB video RAM; 256MB or more is recommended
    + Windows XP
    + 8X DVD-ROM/DVD burner drive
+ 4.6GB Hard drive space (full install?)
    Unnoficially supported graphics chipsets:
