Thanks shack.
I've got a Matroska video (.mkv) and it sounds awesome when I play it with WMPC, but the dialogue is at a very low volume. The sound effects and music are high, but the voices are very low. How do I correct this? It uses AC3 audio.

I'd like to continue the regular play sessions. The plan is to meet ~8-9pm EST every Tuesday and Saturday. I'd also like to continue maintaining the casual atmosphere. I want everyone in the guild to feel accepted and happy with themselves, not beat down over how they performed last game. Casual guild, everyone welcome... that's the motto here at GCR 2.0. So if you've got friends who want to play, invite away!
And if the guys who played have questions, now is a good time to ask and get the answers.
And in conclusion: http://www.ihaveabadfeelingaboutthis.com/GCR_GVG_1.jpg
Let the fun continue!]b

* WinKey+R > URL <enter> should open a new tab (does in FF)
* Typing a URL in address bar and <enter> should open a new tab
* Search results from integrated search bar should open in a new tab
* Middle-clicking things (some work, some don't) should open a new tab
If I could get these items working, I'd be vewy happy. I realize this is still beta. Just making a point.
Good morning btw!

"We [at Sony] do roughly 75% of our sales of our expansion packs digitally. None of those sales ever get recorded in NPD or by any other source.
Valve does an absolutely massive business in it as well (I was on a panel with Gabe a few months back where he said publicly that over half their revenue from Half-Life 2 was through Steam)."
I really love reading that. PC gaming is evolving (drastically) over time, not totally drying up. The big money in the modern PC market is in MMORPGs for nerdos and casual games for the mass market. The old guard, games the likes of Quake and Freespace and Baldurs Gate are finding themselves costing more money to produce while making less money back. Some are dying off all together. Beyond Good & Evil? Psychonauts? If those games porked out on their consoles, is there a future for them on the PC?
I think what will happen in the future is that the new generations of highly-profitable games will steer the direction of PC gaming more than the niche games which some of us exclusively play. It might go so far as the Quakes using hand-me-down technology from the WoWs.
I would be afraid for the welfare of my favorite games if it was not for the development of online file distribution. It removes a middle man. It potentially puts more power and profit into the hands of developers rather than publishers. It can prevent piracy through online authentication. Not to mention it is convenient for the modern online-all-the-time gamer.
I was reading about Interplay, Volition, and Freespace 2. When the Freespace franchise tanked Volitian changed the EULA to allow free to distribution to friends; they release the source code; and they released the online multiplayer system for the community to modify and host. That's amazing to me, I think they did a great thing there.
That wonderful event also happened to mark the end of the PC space fighter. One of the old guard turning into the dead guard. What I hope to see in the future is an environment where this old guard can come back and be profitable. Whether it takes hand-me-down software systems to do it or not.
And rather than the PC market evolving into Hollywood, I'd like to see it evolve into something that uses cheap online distribution to put power into the hands of developers to deliver good games to good paying customers. Steam, I'm looking at you -- Darwinia, Red Orchestra, etc... wow, I find this new phenomenon amazing. Indie games launching into the same faces as the world's most popular shooter, Counterstrike. I think there is potential for good things to happen here!
Lets promote healthy game industry growth by buying the games we like, and supporting developers who practice habits we believe in. Hopefully with the power of money and online discussion with the bigwigs we can guide the next decade of PC gaming into a creative utopia rather than a Hollywood nightmare.
Thank you. Good morning and good luck.

this is a fun game but some of the player made maps were horrible. I mean i guess it's cool when 1 person finishes the race (or no one does), but it does get a little discouraging when 90% of the player maps end up being this way. I'm going to make a map that is literally impossible to finish but has porn all over the place so it won't seem as bad

Is it worth buying or is Katamari Damacy worth importing via ebay or whatever instead?
In other news, I finally got my Trauma Center import yesterday. Holy shit I love that game, I knew I would from the first second I read about it. If only my hands weren't so big and holding that DS wouldn't hurt after 1 hour

wow ... things sure die down here around 9:00 pm.
swing shift has its +'s and -'s ... for instance i get to sleep in late in the morning, which works well for me because im definitely more happy when i get to wake up on my own accord, not by alarm. i also miss all forms of bay area traffic, which is absolutely HORRINDOUS in the morning and late afternoon.
but, i dont get to see the woman very long because she has to wake up early, and i almost always end up eating late at night which is no good. its pretty boring after 8 or 9pm, and around 10 (now) i start getting sleepy and that weird "wired" feeling.
2pm-11pm is the shift - anybody else work weird hours? it seems to be the google right of passage for us helpdesk guys, all the news guys have to work each and every shift available so that we get used to it. i dont care really, im down for whatever :)
