Western Digital Announces 500GB Drive

Western Digital has announced their WD Caviar SE16 500GB HDD, which runs at 7,200 RPM and features 16MB of cache. The drive costs $350 through WD's online store. Thanks Tech Report.

I'm surprised they haven't sold "RAID Packages" - two drives in one package. I would think they would sell pretty well, considering most people/machines are doing RAID. Guess it would cut their bottom line, but it's an idea that I'm sure was thought of already. Oh well, we need media that doesn't make noise and is less prone to failure. :(

These are SATA drives, btw. Amazing that they've ramped up on the capacity of SATA drives so quickly.... I thought for sure they would always lag behind that of IDE drives.
