Heroes of Might & Magic V Delay Petition
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 27, 2006 4:45am PSTSeveral Heroes of Might & Magic fan sites have teamed up to launch SaveHeroes.org, hoping to persuade Ubisoft to delay the upcoming Heroes of Might & Magic V. After playing the open beta test, the sites involved are convinced the game needs additional development time. The strategy game sequel is currently scheduled for release next month.
With Heroes of Might and Magic 4 having received poor sales in comparison to its predecessor, Heroes 5 is seen by most as a make or break game. If it fails, so will the entire Might and Magic franchise. If it succeeds, then the product line would gain the support it needs for a long term at Ubisoft. After the rough start and continued issues of the Open Beta, and some investigation, these leaders realized that there was little time to act. Ubisoft's fiscal year ends on March 31, coinciding with the release date. Ubisoft was also the target of a takeover bid in December of 2004, something they are not likely to forget easily. Wanting to hit or exceed their yearly targets could be a reason for the March 31 release date. However, such short-term plans are exactly what doomed Heroes 4, New World Computing and The 3DO Company. SaveHeroes.Org is now open to try and prevent such a thing from happening.Update: GameSpot reports that Ubisoft is indeed delaying the game, though the publisher tells the site they did so before this petition came to light. A new release date should be issued next week.

"According to a news report on GameSpot, Heroes of Might and Magic V has been delayed by Ubisoft. It was originally stated that 'the company had pushed Heroes of Might and Magic V out of the March release window before the beta test even went live.' However, the story has been updated after a Ubisoft representative contacted GameSpot: 'the game's delay was not known about before the launch of the beta testing period.' "
Game is looking really good. Graphically speaking, that is.
The HOMM feeling is definitly there, but there are some things that they should (or shouldn't have in the first place) change. The towns are horrible. Please give us back the "old" interface, where you can see everything you can (or can't) build at the first glance. How it is now, you have to scroll through the options, see them one by one. Not efficient.
Icons and Exploration : Give us the horse and [horse on back legs] icon. the hand and finger hand are really not as efficient.
I know its still in beta, but i just want to say they have to be changed, and i hope it's in their plans !
These are the little things that i find were really annoying. Otherwise the game is really fun, has the HOMM feel to it, and is great !

Basically, nerds need to quit their pointless bitching.
If the game sucks, then don't buy it. That will teach them much more of a lesson than an empty-threat petition. Because face it, 3/4 people that sign that petition are still going to buy the game on a release day, anyway.
*sigh* what silly-ness

This is funny when the harcore fans of the game telll you to keep your product because its not ready.
It does seem to me however, that anyone who puts quarterly figures over the long term viability of a franchise, especially one with this kind of pedigree doesn't deserve to be the position where they can be allowed to make those kinds of decisions.

If they do delay it then they have to admit they're wrong - and it's not like there's a guarantee that the extra dev time will "save" the game
So bad situation all around.
