How does this compare to UT2K4?

I don't think you can really compare them. This is a MMO game. I couldn't wait to try this game before it was released, then when they did I dunno. I completely lost interest.

I'll try this out for sure.

absolutely nothing like UT2k4. Think battlefield 2 with much much deeper gameplay and persistance, ranks that mean something, teamplay is an absolute must ("Lone Wolves" are useless in PS). Its also nothing like Tribes though ppl like comparing the two because of Dave Georgenson was producer for a while.

One of the best tactical squad-based games ever made but you need to commit to long hours of gameplay to get the full experience.

It doesn't, it's a war game. Basically there are a bunch of planets that are covered with bases that one of 3 factions controls. You fight over capturing all the bases. There's a lot of nuance to the various things to be kept in mind and things to do to help the fight, but then again after a month or so it tends to be repititive to people, because ALL you really do is cap bases (and their nearby towers which are staging points for attack.) Even with some fantastic battles, the monthly fee thing tends to be very offputting. It's still one of the more innovative online games of the past 5 years, they just didn't work out the subscription model appropriately for it.
