Crashday Demo
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 26, 2006 6:18am PSTOver at FileShack you can grab a Crashday demo, allowing you to try out the action/stunts/racing game from Moon Byte Studios. The 316mb download includes a Stunt Show event and a Wrecking Match event, and can be played online. Instead of being time limited or expiring after a certain date, this demo will cease to work after 50 starts. Thanks 3D Gamers.
The full version of the game is scheduled to ship next month.

I'm a huge fan of the legendary Stunts, I tried a demo of the first Trackmania when it came out and pretty much puked, that was a horrible game, I also tried the demo of the second TM and that sucked too. All my hopes of a real Stunts like game had since then been on Crashday's shoulders. So finally the demo of was released 26th of January 2006, I just had to download it immediately.
The music was ok, I got the feeling that it might suit well to some of the game modes, but I like to play with no musics on when I'm playing car racing games. At least the in-game musics were a hell of a lot better than what the music was in the old Crashday game engine test videos. Some horrible techno crap...
I don't know what demo many of the people here have played, but as you can clearly see, the demo features TWO different cars and two different game modes. I like both of those cars, the 4X4 Power Pick'Em'Up V8 car that is slower but is easy to handle and then the fast Ironhorse Motors V8 race car that is very good for stunt driving and normal racing.
Since the first videos and screenshots I had worried about the miniguns and missiles, because I only care about racing and stunt driving, not Carmageddon like shooter on wheels, but I have to say that I ended up liking the guns game mode a lot, it was fun to hunt those other drivers. :)
Graphicswise the game looks really great, car models couldn't look much better and the scenery is very detailed. The team sure has had some good graphics people working on the game!
The game does have some physics bugs that could be fixed with additional patches, Crashday is coming out in a month so I don't believe that they have enough time anymore to do changes to the final release.
In conclusion I can surely say that I'm sold. Roger Clemens and his team have travelled a long road to get to this point and I like the game that they have created. I will buy Crashday as soon as it's released.

3 years went by and 3 different Trackmanias came out and totally nuked the appeal of a Stunts remake.
All this game has left going for it is the guns angle.

Ouch, this is really unpolished on the stunts side. The guns side is a sloppy Twisted Metal/i76 wannabe with bad physics.

I'm looking forward to the hopefully inevitable Carmageddon mod :)

Some things:
- "This demo does not reflect the quality of the final game."... why even release a demo then. Jesus.
- For the Wreck mode of the game (basically deathmatch), weapons were kinda funky. Sometimes missiles would lock on... other times they'd just fly straight. Seems like I'd take 3 times more damage from enemy missiles than I would to them. Additionally, only getting the last hit in counts as a kill... which kind irks me.
- For the stunt mode... it's pretty fun. But I feel like you need more control of your car in mid-air. The stunt map felt like something out of Tony Hawk.. which is fine... but whenever I'd try to link stunts or jump up some of those ramps, and land back on the ramp (Tony Hawk Style), I'd end up jumping past the ramp or jumping to the side. They should put in some kind of like in-air "Fin Control" or something... where little wings/fins pop out of your car in mid-flight to give you limited control.
Anyway, okay as far as demos go. Worth a download if you're on a phat pipe.

color me not impressed and it wasn't fun. the car physics seem wonky and weird the camera zips around like a bee on crack and the cars in the demo really suck.

The issues with the demo are, as some said, the sluggish car and the (few) times the camera can be odd. Overall, though the camera wasn't an issue at all.
I'll definetly be picking this up on the 24th.
