Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Jan 25, 2006 7:39pm PSTSo indeed, happy birfday mumsy! I went and took a uh.. step aerobics class with mom this afternoon to celebrate. It was really pretty fun although I imagine my knees will disagree with me tomorrow. I'm 30 now so that means it's time to start really complaining about my aching joints. I can sense the weather with them!

I'm sure you've all seen Kevin Federline rocking out to his new single in the studio (if you haven't, there's a link to the video on the page linked above), but I wanted to share AOTS' take on it.
We literally conceived, produced and edited the song and video this morning after our news meeting... that was an insane turn-around time.
Hope you guys like it!!!

That allows you to run background processes and such. Thank you.

For example, I need to do a fairly simple program. Grab the contents of a directory, save the contents to an array, and do this every 5 minutes. If the contents change, a window needs to pop up that says there has been a change.
So, the first thing I need to learn how to do is get the contents of a directory to an array. So I found this code sample: http://authors.aspalliance.com/olson/methods/GetDirectoryFileInfo.aspx
Well, every time it gets into making the Array, I get a SecurityException was unhandled :( Really I have no clue what I am doing here.

Introducing the DS Lite. Guess the rumors were true. Rough translation of some of it:
The article says that the system is thinner, lighter, and has adjustable brightness controls (apparently it's called DS lite because of both weight and brightness).
Original dimensions: 148 x 85 x 28mm
New dimensions: 133 x 73.9 x 21.55mm
Old weight: 275g
New weight: 218g

I'm curious, do these small companies just run into lots of money, or are business internet connections in the US a lot cheaper than they are in Australia?

"Thanks for the thought. As soon as I get the flowers, I will pack them up and send them to to Judge James M. Moore, Fayette County Courthouse, Fayette, Alabama 35555. He is the Judge presiding over our wrongful death case which arose out of Devin Moore's training on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to kill 2 cops and a dispather. We were all on 60 Minutes about it. I want Judge Moore to know that the flowers are an "in memoriam" tribute to the three good men cut down because Paul Eibeler, CEO of Take-Two/Rockstar is a sociopathic criminal who knowingly markets adult, cop-killing murder simulators to kids. GTA has spawned multiple murders around the country, including the school massacre in Red Lake, MN. Go ahead. Send me the flowers. They'll be sent right off to the Judge, with an explanation as to who sent them and then who forwarded them, and why. Go ahead; make my day. Jack Thompson"

My two cents, I think this is pretty immature. I mean sure, the guys annoying, he gets airtime on tv and radio stations and they love him, because he's so offensive and outrageous.
But surely it's better to talk back and make sense, instead of doing something like this. All that's going to happen here is, flowers go to Jack Thompson, media reports it as bizarre, then covers the GTA case he's on just now and he gets more time in the spotlight, where he can twist this story to say whatever he wants.

Obviously it makes finding them difficult but anyone know of technical reasons or any reasons other than makes it easy for users to find them.

I'm considering buying a GPS/satnav thingy for my bike. Is there anything good out there you guys can recommend? If I can grab "door to door" maps online for real cheaps/free it'd be awesome, but mainly I need a system that lets me pick routes and still avoiding gravel roads and highways if possible. It should have gas stations in there and the system should work with gloves on.
So far I've found TomTom RIDER which seems pretty cool and fullfills most of my needs:

But maybe there's something better out there?

Would that seriously do anything other than steal money from your wallet? It boggles me to think that could help burn calories.

Video card is having severe overheating issues. Not sure why exactly. It's a 9800pro and the heatsink / fan seem to be seated properly and the fan is spinning just fine. But this isn't the issue at hand.
I'm currently shacking at 640x480 and 4-bit color. Why you ask? Well I have onboard video on this motherboard. Except its not working. I can't install the driver for it. I uninstalled the ATI drivers and have a legit Windows CD but its not finding the driver. It's funny because usually when I do a fresh format and initially boot using onboard video the first time windows loads it's at full resolution and color depth.
