So in an effort to like.. be ahead of the curve or something we actually took down the Christmas decorations today. Generally I've been of the opinion that it's classy to keep decorations up until mid-Spring.  Thing is, given that I spent a few years growing up in a trailer park my idea of classy is sometimes frowned upon. Who knew? My best friend lived in a double-wide.. I know class!

  • Hopefully someone will understand what I am talking about here, through the terrible diagrams and descriptions.

My case has front USB ports that naturally have cables inside that are supposed to plug into the motherboard. I just swapped out my mobo though, and the new one does not have the same style pin doodads for extra USB ports as my old one does.

I have tried to render the situation in this glorious mspaint production:
http://www.netzwerkomaha.com/images/usbwtf.bmp (Yes, it's an ungodly 1MB for that image but what are you going to do with BMPs?)

Anyway, on the left is a drawing of what the case provides me: A cable with a 3 pin connector that has the shown designations. On the right is what the motherboard provides for USB connectors, with pins roughly identified.

As you can hopefully see, if I were to just connect the case's wires to the motherboard, the data- and data+ lines would be swapped. Being only a novice electronics guy, that sounds not good to me, but there's really nothing else to do. So:

A: Will this blow stuff up? (i.e. if I were to connect it for some ungodly reason)
B: Is there an easy way to fix the situation so I can save my front USB ports? (For example, I suppose I could just yank the white and green wires on the lefthand side and swap their positions)
