GG.
Spend years creating a fantastic middle earth RTS game to take on WC3 head-to-head, A game that gamers will enjoy for depth, attention to detail and variety???!? NO CHANCE
EA prefer to...
shovel out many different RTS games, all incredibly simple/straighforward, each being forgotten about in a matter of weeks. Hope that some people are dumb enough to buy all of them. Sure they look graphically ok. But I'd much rather a game that care has been taken on in every aspect. Blizzard and and to a lesser extent Ensemble understand this.
I used to get mad at people complaing about EA, but BF2: Special Forces was the final straw. They are the antithesis of valve or blizzard. They have no interest in making detailed, well crafted or deep games. Everything is just "good enough to constitute being a release" Everything they do now plays like it was created by people under a bull whip. Sure it works and functions, but it's just "good enough." There is no "art" in their game design.
I'd love to know if all of these middle earth RTS games combined made as much money as WC3. I bet they won't. It wont even be close. Cowardly business decision that wont pay off.

1. Will this game have more unit and structure build options?
2. Will base building/fortification be more open (build where you want)
3. Will the game have a online campaign mode?

Otherwise, looks good.
I really don't expect much from EA as I feel most of their games suck. I have more faith in Empire At War being a good game than I do BFME 2.

EA needs to learn pretty games don't make fun games.

...
Or is that a dead horse that I hear being beaten?
sure, playing against the computer gets dry and stale after a while, i can take on 7 hard armies by myself and beat them all with every army
but playing online against other people with leadership stacking and such really takes skill - this game is quality, no matter what anybody says.

I liked the simplicity of BFME 1, and the tie-in's to all the epic battles in the movies. It really helped me get my RTS feet wet.
BFME 2 is understandably the next step in the evolution of the franchise. By adding more complexity and freedom to do whatever it will be a totally different experiece. Unfortunately, an experience fans of the first game may not have really wanted.
The screens (and hype) of the first one made me buy it. And goddamn, that game was ugly and very poor in the gameplay department.
