Over at FileShack you can find a new movie from The Chronicles of SpellBorn, showing off this Dutch developed MMORPG which uses the Unreal Engine. The movie runs for about four and a half minutes showing off various features. The game is currently in beta.

Well fuck me, but I really like the look of this game.
Sure it's quite low-res, the models could use some improvement, and the animations aren't great, but it has a style that I like. Also the universe is original and doesn't look like any of the three dozens other fantasy games out there (MMOs or not).
At any rate it's still in its alpha stage.

I ahte to say it, but this game is very aesthetically unnapealing. The drab character designs, the drab enemies, the drab palate, the low poly counts... I somehow doubt I could be sucked into a world as ugly as that.

Why the hell are you people so negative? Since when do fancy-pants pixel shaders make a game fun? Maybe all you pessimistic bastards should look at the gameplay, not the graphics, before you write it off as a failure. There have been numerous previews that tout a game that looks to be going in a completely different direction than most MMOs.

MMORPG's can't follow the WoW path anymore, Blizzard did their thing very well. A good way to compete with the large scale of WoW is to have smaller servers with more personal gameplay. Like 200 people per server with a few GM's to stir shit up. Like the old school Meridian 59
