First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 29, 2005 6:46am PSTAt the beginning of the year I mentioned BreakQuest, a very fun BreakOut remake type game. Though the game was a great deal of fun I kind of forgot about it until the the other day when I discovered that the full version was on Stardock's TotalGaming.net service. I went ahead and grabbed it and have been having a lot of fun ever since. Just all kinds of crazy levels and powerups, plus I really like the early 90s MOD like music. It's just nice to have a game that you can play for like 10 minutes before moving on, which is why I definitely see the appeal of those Xbox Live arcade games like Hexic etc. Also on FileShack
- D-Bug demo - top down action game.
- FIFA Manager 2006 Retail 1.1 Patch - UK - tons of bug fixes.
- DM-Anschar - custom UT2004 map.
- Hunting Unlimited 3 demo - deer killing without leaving your seat.
- GTR 1.5 patch / GT Legends 1.1 patch - improved multiplayer functionality for both.

Some of you know that I work in a call centre. Well, it looks like I won't be there much longer (found another job) and so I've gotten around to doing the final touches and a few final submissions to The Book.
What is The Book, you ask?
A small exercise book was made available at an agent’s workstation, and any 'interesting' calls, names or places we would encounter at work could be jotted down in this book by anyone at all . Some would be strange, funny, some even disturbing, but the outright majority of them would be operators remembering the absolutely clueless callers that we would often receive. The Book was ‘finished’ at the end of November 2005, and what follows is the complete work – A compilation of The Book from 2003, 2004 and 2005.
It also includes a lot of the best business names we've found in Australia.
It's worth a read due to the outright displays of stupidity, and to help spread the word that we deal with these morans every day, just like everyone else.
On my final day I'm going to mass-distribute copies of the finished product. Even the managers love it. One said "You should not be doing this.. .but it's just too good."

anyone got any recommendations for equipment and such i should get?
so far, i think i should get:
* a 4 port kvm so i dont have to sit there waiting for a machine to finish a virus scan or something before i can work on another machine
* an external backup drive.. not just a hd, but one of those jobbies that can mirror a drive without an os. im right now trying to back up files from someones machine, and having to take ownership of all the files fucking licks.
* a decent keyboard, monitor and mouse.. any old keyboard/mouse will do, but ill need a decent monitor, capable of at least 1600x1200, so i dont have to fuck around in safe mode if someones running high resolutions..
* a good surge protector, 4-5 port switch and short cable runs .. i should probably get a crimper and a spool of cat5 as well and make my own, then i could sell them..
and lastly i think ill need to get some corporate versions of AV, spyware apps etc so i can run them on peoples machines without having to rely on the shareware versions.. ideally id be able to run them from a bootable cd so i never have to touch the host os..
any other thoughts?

Repost from last night - I got this shackmsg from themelon:
Well, no one uses the vanilla server anymore so i dont see a reason to keep it up at the moment.
I have allready upgraded it to 1.12 so it should be easy to turn on SF. Why dont you put out a post to see what people would prefer. If you get enough interest for SF I will pick it up...
And here's what I said to him first:

Do you think there's enough interest in the expansion pack for BattleField 2 to host it in place of where the BattleField 2 64 player is already running? I mean, any plans for Special Forces for hosting?
If so, then I will announce a shackbattle just for Special Forces!! If not, then I will announce a shackbattle for BattleField 2.

This will be regular BattleField 2.. not the expansion pack. But it is a ranked server!
My clan is going to play a game there tonight... so do you guys want to join us for some good old fashioned BATTLEFIELD 2?

I have been using money the last month and a halfor so to track my spending habits. Over the last month or so I have spent a bunch of money on computer upgrade the ultimate DS that I saved up over the summer and the other things I have to pay for around the house.. I would glance at my cash flow review and see it going up every month. Well after vacation I fired it up again and put in the expenses that I had and checked out the cash flow review and noticed that there was new items in there called trending.

The blue is my checking account and the red is the wifes and the green and purple are my savings accounts. Yeah, I think I am going to have to talk to her about spreading out the load but I think money is just being stupid and seeing the purchases I made this month and spreading it out.
Wow that was a fucking mistake.

My buddy just got his cable connection hooked up at his house, but there's a problem with internet explorer. He can get on the net fine, but he can't get to any webpages, and instead of saying "This page cannot be displayed" with a bunch of info after that, it just says "This page cannot be displayed" and then it's all white. Sounds like spyware or something to me. Now the question is, how do I get him Firefox so he can download some anti-spyware shit when he has no access to an internet explorer?

Any way to make the menus less funky? I use Windows XP with the Classic/2000 skin and the "flat" menus really suck.
