First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 14, 2005 6:52am PSTThe Xbox 360 launch here is December 2, and only now have I seen my first piece of advertising in the form of a Coke can with a Perfect Dark Zero ad on it. Haven't really noticed anything on TV or by way of billboards yet, which kinda surprises me. From the look of things most online sites here are out of ther initial 360 pre-order batch regardless though, so maybe they don't quite need the advertising for the launch of the system. Also on FileShack
- Silkroad Online - client - the latest fantasy MMORPG.

Ok guys, I know this has been discussed in several forums including this one. I've spent several hours checking here and with google trying to determine which one will actually make me happier in the end. I know that there is an incredible library of games coming out for the DS, but I personally like the ability to watch movies with the PSP. The library doesnt seem to be as good for the PSP, but the games are coming (right?).
I'm leaning more towrds the PSP for several reasons:
- PSP looks fantastic with its widescreen LCD
- PSP plays movies either by UMD or by converted movies put on a mem stick
- PSP package for $299 http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/259822.asp
- DS package (w/Mario Cart) for $150 http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/259765.asp
I know its half the price, but it also seems to to half the stuff. :(
Shack! Help me with my delima! Money is important, but I doubt its a deciding factor....well, maybe it is........gah!

I mean they / "the press" are marketing Prey like its some huge sequel to some massive game released way back in the day. When reality, there was no game, no released screenshots, no e3 demo, no intro movies, no anything; it was just an idea.
Prey is like the sequel to hype.

I came up with a few:
The Incredible Machine
Think of how cool a new TIM could be with the source engine. You basically already have sandbox mode with Gary's Mod, but expand the idea out to a whole game. It would be sweet: do a whole map where the player only has a box of nails & some wood. Or string and balloons, or any of the classic TIM style devices, but in a whole new world.
Road Rage:
Road Rage has been dead for way too long. It has to be one of the best games from the 16 bit era, but there hasn't been a remake in a whole generation. I think that with Xbox Live! on the 360 it could be just an amazing game
Mutant League Games:
This one is tough, because its easy to screw up. They would have to give it to the right dev team to get the blend of serious sports & comedic action. What we wouldn't want is another "NFL Blitz" type game..

1) in a networked environment using pcs using windows as the OS, if I want to copy files from one pc to another using network share usually, assuming persmissions are set correctly, its \\ipaddress or pc name\share or map a network drive or any of the common ways you would usually do that.
How do you do this in linux ? I guess its done through ftp or you have to mount a drive. Say linux box 1 wants to copy files to linux box 2 you would have to mount a drive on linux box 1 to linux box 2 ?
2) we have a linux server that is running redhat 6.0. How the hell would I go about making a mirror of the drive in that box onto a different linux box ? It is not important to make a physical mirror, I dont need to worry about cylinders and heads etc, I just need all directories (preferably keeping instact the permissions) copied over
3) how the hell do you copy directories in linux ?
Thank you

The company I'm working for is in the middle of undergoing alot of technology changes/updates/upgrades.
One of those has been the development of an application framework in PHP5 which will be released to the app-dev team sometime next month. We have 10-12 developers and work on some big clients like Pepsi and the US Air Force.
In parallel with this process we are attempting to choose an IDE to move forward with. Right now, the options on the table are Eclipse (with either phpEclipse or TruStudio plugin) and Zend Studio.
Zend Studio
I've used this IDE for about a year and I think it's the bees knees. And version 5 is coming up and brings some awesome features, including: code-folding, SVN support, and better object recognition in regards to composition/aggregation and other scenarios, like objects returned from Factories.
http://www.zend.com/store/products/zend-studio/
Eclipse et plugin
Eclipse is a very well-known open-source IDE, popular with java devs if I'm not mistaken. I don't have any personal experience with this yet (downloading now). Zend was actually a clear choice until this press release http://www.zend.com/news/zendpr.php?id=109. Until I get some experience with this sucker, I have nothing further to add.
http://www.eclipse.org/
http://www.xored.com/trustudio
http://phpeclipse.sourceforge.net/
So now we're on the fence about which IDE to move forward with. I'm a fan of commercial tools, but it's clear Eclipse has alot of momentum and industry support.
Please share your thoughts/experiences.

No, you sick bastards, I'm here to ask about comfortable computer chairs. I have some cheapo $15 Walmart chair that really sucks and I'm in dire need of one. Any suggestions? I see all these neato mesh chairs and adjustable angles and whatnot... but it's pretty expensive. I'm talking close to $300! I guess I should just bite the bullet and get a real expensive one since I sit in it all the damn time.
Maybe if it's comfortable, I won't break it by sitting on it in weird positions. (Legs folded under me, sitting on my feet kinda position)

That looks nice, but I bet it sucks... and ouch on the price. :(

It was a really well done comedy/drama/murder mystery. Shane Black did an excellent job with both directing and sharp writing, giving Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. a chance to show off their abilities. It was surprisingly funny, even in places where it shouldn't have been, and also dramatic when you're not expecting it.
I don't know what Warner Bros. are doing with this movie though, since I've seen zero advertising for it, but don't let that fool you, it's definately worth checking out.

I have a folder full of Christmas music. Last Christmas I was using Winamp so it was easy to just pick my Christmas music folder and listen to it. I'd like to use iTunes to listen to my Christmas music this year.
Is there a way to import my music but ensure it at least sets the genre to Christmas so I can sort the music that way?
