NVidia today announced the availability of the 6800 GS, a $250 card meant to compete against some of the more affordable ATI cards. HardOCP, Tech Report, Guru 3D and AnandTech all take a look at a reference card.

I'm really sick of the idiotic way nVidia and ATi does this...

How the heck is the average joe supposed to know the difference between a

6800, 6800GS, 6800GT, 6800 Ultra??

I still dont know how Ati's XT/Pro/XE/PE or whatever works....

They really need to fix this crap.. trying to find out which card is best for yourselve and price comparison is retared...

Drop all that crap and call it a 6800, 6805, 6820, 6899....

Though they only provide one SLI benchmark. In the techreport article about the 6800GS, the SLI 6800GS generally beats the 1800XT and 7800GTX, which in the case of the 1800XT cost more than the SLI setup would.
