Here, Have a Mod

Gamasutra has a short article highlighting some recent FPS mods and some less-recent ones you may possibly have missed.

And so, on to some esoteric mods. We picked up on two new Quake-engine total conversions built in the wake of Id's release of the Quake III source code via art games site Select Parks. Tremulous, an FPS/RTS multiplayer hybrid reminiscent of Natural Selection, is a Quake III total conversion made exceptional by virtue of being coded for Linux only gaming, and is hosted over on Linux Gamers. The other title, Warsow, is a little more radical, being a Quake 2 hybrid engine game which mixes cell-shaded stylings with martial arts and a touch of violent future-sports. Amongst UT 2004 mods, the standout mods of the last few months are the fantasy melee mod, Soulkeeper, and then arter-than-thou noir space exploration game Hollow Moon.
Of course, by this point everybody knows Garry's Mod, which is also mentioned in the article, but there are some interesting projects in there I wasn't aware of. Also, if you're interested in Tremulous, follow this link for the download rather than the one provided in the Gamasutra article. Anyway, anyone aware of some other particularly interesting mods that have popped up lately? Do share.

Our initial 1 map "demo" release was made a month ago.

Dystopia is a Half-Life 2 modifcation which places the player into tense combat situations in a high tech world spanned by computer networks. As either Punks or Corp Mercenaries the player will fight through the physical world to gain access, via jack-in terminals, to cyberspace. Cyberspace is a three dimensional representation of the world's network. Inside cyberspace players will launch programs to hack into systems linked to the physical world, fight off enemy hackers or defend critical systems. Gameplay progresses through inter-linked physical and cyberspace objectives, some are completed in either the physical world or cyberspace, others only by a well timed combination of the two.

The player will be immersed in action packed battles, whether as a heavily augmented combat mercenary armed to the teeth with the latest in firepower and implants, or a twitch reflex cyberdecker racing to infiltrate a cyberspace node. Only through skillful use of the high tech arsenal we're making available and intelligent team play will players truly jack-in and kick ass.
