One day, you will be able to see Gabe Newells office through a webcam.
Suddenly there will be rumors coming up, that he plans to buy a new bin. This information will be posted everywhere on the Half-Life 2 fanpages. When his bin finally arrives, people will discuss how great it looks and kind of stuff.
I'm sure of this.

They do a good job with it, but nothing I haven't seen several times outside the HL2 engine.
Ran well with A64 939, 6800GT, 1GB 400mhz

On the commentary, I thought it was well voiced, and explained everything pretty clearly, I liked how some of the "Voice bubbles" caused the camera to go into a special view mode to do comparisons and such, that was a very good way to go.
Overall I think this sort of thing is the future, and I hope episodic content (Both from gamers (In the form of mods, or maybe even stuff like Black Widow Games is doing with They Hunger: Lost Souls.) and Valve.) continues to push the limits of Half-Life 2, and what Steam can do.

Then there's scripting bugs. One time after loading a quick save inside the church all the killed combine models just stood there instead of lying down on the ground. And another time a combine was shooting at me from inside the ground. Only the particles were visible. AND another time the 1st chopper just vanished without me destroying it, etc..
But anyways... more Half-Life content is ALWAYS a good thing :)

That time won't be in the coming generation...
How much does it cost to buy a HDTV? Do I watch TV/DVDs to justify the purchase of a HDTV? How much s the subscrition to Xbox live on top of my broadband fee? How can you write CDs and DVDs without a writer? You can't write documents, you can't make mods, you can't draw graphics*. There isn't even a fraction of the freedom you can have on the PC, and some of the buying costs are hidden. How much more do console games cost than PC games for example? I'm not bashing consoles, I'm just stating facts.
Anyway, it looks to me like MS is trying to turn the xbox into a closed standards PC that IT can make all the money off (just like it said it wouldn't). It is creating all these things that are pretty much taken for granted by PC gamers (patches, addons, small cheap games (live arcade), netplay, voicecomm, messaging, lots of storage (but actually not, at 20gb), etc.) and making them look nice, adding the MS brand and charging a subscription fee.
Sony is probably going to try and do the same with the PS3.
These companies have probably been thinking a lot how they could make more money from the internet, and by creating a closed system with constraints and laws they set (as opposed to the PC and the current internet) they can control its use and the content delivered on it a lot more tightly than they could ever hope to on the regular old WWW.
Maybe you would consider me to be elitist, but would an elitist PC gamer sit at home in front of a 14 inch tv and a gamecube and play Zelda until completion? Would he put up with the shit camera in Mario Sunshine for so long? Would he have a DS (that admittedly sees very little action). Would he be almost certain to buy a Revolution?
*You can do some of these things with peripherals, but it's generally a lot more of a hassle than for the PC.

Another thing.. How cool is it that after buying HL2 through Steam over a year ago, I'm still reaping the benefits. Still playing Cs Source,, still playing DoD:source (wish others were), and now we get this demo to mess with. Of course , there's still even more stuff on the way (maps, models). I personally wish all games came on Steam at this point.
Lastly, Robin Walker (I think that was his name), has an awesome accent.

Seeing the man behind the curtain is fun sometimes. We've had this for years with laserdiscs and DVDs for movies. Its pretty cool hearing this kind of thing from game developers too.

I was able to play for about 5 minutes before the nausea and head aches set in. I dont know what it is about HL2 and this that does it to me... DoD:S doesnt do it.

I seriously can't justify spending 200 bucks on a video card when I have lots of bills to pay and NOLF1 was the last game I really really liked...

-The rope to the chandleer didn't swing w/ the chandleer when hit with the gravity gun.
-When I loaded a saved game, every one I had already killed stood up as ragdolls and it creeped the hell out of me.
Very fun though. Nice price.

Now take what Valve was able to do a compare it to FEAR, which seems to drop into the teens in terms of fps even when i'm looking at a blank wall.

I clicked to install lost coast:
- pre loads in like 5 seconds... well that was fast, i thought pre loading downloads all the necessary game files before the game is unlocked...
- click to play, and of course the dialog appears where 'game will be ready in X minutes'; at this point it says in the games list it's 90% complete.
- i click the bandwith monitor, and it says that it downloaded 10 MB so far
Dear Valve,
How the fuck is 10MB of the almost 300 count as 90% complete? And why can't you just split this whole process into 'install game' and then 'play game'? I shouldn't be clicking play game only to get a dialog that my game has not yet been downloaded, in fact only like 10% has so far, yet the installation and preloading are complete?
