For some reason this announcement slipped through the cracks, but Bethesda announced a few days ago that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will feature music by composer Jeremy Soule. He also scored the previous Elder Scrolls game Morrowind, and has worked on many other games including Guild Wars, Dungeon Siege and Neverwinter Nights.

  • i'd have to say that Jeremy Soule is probably the best composer i've ever listened to. Morrowind, Dungeon Siege and Oblivion were awesome... and since you usually end up spending lots and lots of hours (hundreds) in those games, a rushing pounding song would get old... the key to good music in those games is to make it so that it comes and goes into your conciousness as you play... it's not meant to be at the forefront of what you're thinking about-the game is- but every once in awhile a stronger melody bursts forth and that's what everyone knows as the "title" or "theme" song of the games... geez people... he's a genius with music, cut him some slack if he didn't play to your exact taste on a song or two... he most certainly doesn't come anywhere near a donkey dick

  • Well I guess it's only appropriate that he finish off the elder scrolls. I dislike Jeremy Soule's music. It's bland, uninspiring and anticlimactic. I've noticed he's real good at creating a heart winning dramatic title theme but unfortunately, the rest of his stuff ends up this atmospheric, canoodling dredge that I'm sure is partially responsible for a good chunk of boredom experienced by both DS and GW players. How can you not listen to Jeremy Soule's music? It's like the guy works for food- he does music for the majority of games out there. The 'atmospheric dredge' worked for Morrowind though. I liked that soundtrack.

Bill Brown needs to do more soundtracks. Soundtracks that are seemless with the environment, I mean.

  • You people are idiots. The new theme doesnt suck. And Jeremy Soule doesn't suck. If you had played daggerfall at all you would notice he took some of the melodies from the game and meshed with his own for the new game. I think the theme music is fitting. For those of you that hate his music for whatever reason, you can always play other music. I dont think it should sound like morrowind in the first place since the game takes place in the imperial province and not morrowind. Maybe you guys should watch the 20min video again.

  • What's all this Jeremy Soule pootalk! Morrowind soundtrack blew me away, I ripped the music from the game and put in my music library.

I even went online and got more of his music from games. It was good but not Morrowind good.

If you watched the Oblivion presentation you may have noticed the music in the background was mos def Soule, didn't sound exactly like Morrowind but similar atmosphere. That made me happy since I figured Soule was also involved with Oblivion.

On a similar note, the music from Stronghold 1 and 2 is pretty good too, very atmospheric and appropriate for the setting, composed by Robert Euvino.
