The DOOM movie has finally arrived in North American movie theaters. Let us all know, is it more like Resident Evil or are we looking at a Super Mario Bros.-like adaptation. How is the action? The FPS sequence? Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? Please use the spoiler tag when talking about specific plot elements. As for the critics, they are not terribly impressed.

  • My fiancee and I went to see it tonight. She loved it, I liked it. It's got some nice elements to it that are good homages to the games. Sure it's kind of a drag that they switched out Hell for fake science, but they made a good effort to make up for that with all the Hell references ("hellfighters" being my favorite). I think that the Pinky character/transformation was awesome.

My fiancee absolutely loved the FPS segment. I thought that the part where the pinky demon fights back was pretty intense, but other than that the FPS segment felt kinda like a haunted house ride (complete with rubber mask monsters).

Best part of all this was having my fiancee so fired up to see it and push me to take her to see it opening night. Go see it. It's fun.

  • Well.. just saw it here in Boston. Was it worth 10 bucks? No. Resident Evil was better. Both of them.

I don't think it needs to be seen on the big screen to be enjoyed. A good home theater system would be nice, though.

Plot was changed as was already mentioned here. Unfortunately, it was just copied from Resident Evil and Dawn of the Dead.

The Rock was better in his other movies. Really.

The FPS sequence was nice. Again, not how I would have played, but still nice to see in the film.

Character development was, oh heck, does it really matter?

I just wish there were more demons and more carnage. What CGI there was, was done very smoothly and ran well. On my scale, with Lord/Rings as 10 and House of the Dead as 0,

I would give Doom about a 5-6, based mostly on CGI and the FPS sequence.
