They Hunger: Lost Souls Announced
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 19, 2005 11:53am PDTThe guys at Black Widow Games today announced the development of They Hunger: Lost Souls, a commercial horror survival action game based on the They Hunger mod series for Half-Life. The game is set in the 1960s, where you as a tourist get trapped in a North-Eastern European town overrun by zombies. Lost Souls will be powered by the Source Engine, is is currently 75% done with a release date announcement coming soon.

I guess what the game industry needs is a good third party steam that doesn't simultaneously put out competiting games. If I were a major game developer, I sure as hell wouldn't trust Valve to publish my game.

1. head shots put them down instantly.
2. Some sounds that are actually creepy. Not the same "aargh" or "uuugh" over and over again. Yeah thats really the only sounds a zombie makes but they can still be better. Like when a head crab zombie gets set on fire for example. Their scream is awesome.
3. NO SLAPPING. Games like doom3 and the LOTD demo that have these zombies that try to beat you up instead of devouring your flesh are LAME. Weapons are ok I guess. A zombie trying to bash your face with a pick axe would be pretty creepy as long as its well done like the chainsaw guys in RE4.
Even though they weren't zombies I think the villagers in RE4 made better zombies than any zombie I've ever seen in a game. It is fuckn CRAZY when the guy with the chainsaw comes up behind you screaming his head off as he comes after you. I think thats what I want most. More intensity. Slow moving is ok But when they get a hold of you I want to see some insane anamalistic ferocity ya know? Not hands slapping me in the face. Whos with me!

I loved They Hunger for the venerable HL engine. To date I think it was the best first person Zombie experience to be had, granted... not a lot of competition, but it was great for what it was.
Playing something as atmospheric, only professionally produced on the Source engine makes my pants tight.
