The Q4 rocket speed is 900 units (exactly the same as Q3A...for reference, QW's RL speed was 1000 units)...the splash damage is 100 and the splash damage is 120 (both the same as Q3). The damage for direct rocket hits (found in damage_rocketDirect_mp) is also 100 (same as Q3).
The Shotgun seems to be the same as Q3 as well...1000ms refire rate, 11 pellets doing 10 damage each, with a spread number of 700 (it has a var in there that can be set to use Q3 spread values or DOOM3 engine spread values...the multiplayer version of the SG uses a Q3 spread value of 700).
The MG seems to do the same damage it did in Q3 as well (7 dmg normally, 5 dmg in TDM)...ALTHOUGH it does 10 damage when zoomed in! But it also seems to fire more slowly when zoomed in multiplayer (at least thats the impression I get from the .def file).
The railgun does 100 damage in multiplayer...it appears to have a refire rate of 1.5 seconds, assuming that number I'm looking at is in seconds.
I'm not commenting on these numbers and how I feel about them...I'm posting these because there's been a lot of commenting on the rockets being slower than in Q3 or other things, and this may not be the case (at least that's what the .def files suggest).

I'm sure I'm gonna like Q4... but I always liked the Quake 1 world a bit better than the Quake 2 world. And this game looks like Q2 on steroids.

So I'm building a new box. Not just for this game, though that's the old cliche, right? The $1500 video game.
Id games have always been the obsolescence indicator. The litmus test that determines an old machines viability.
It's like Logans Run and my little palm crystal turned red.
Honest question people. If Quake 1 or Quake 2 or DukeNukem, you name it, came out tomorrow for the first time and had updated graphics/ragdoll and all that you'd complain as well. "WHAA .. this Q1 shit is too fast, they're expecting me to just belive in some crazy portal shit. WHERE IS MY STORY? I'm not buying it!" :(

FloridaGamer posted this and I think this bears repeating. This is exactly the way I feel about it. It really combines some of the best parts of quake and mashes them together. The game runs smooth as butter on my system. I was fearing in MP that it would be all hurky and jerky on my monitor with crappy FPS. I have everything on high at 1024 and it runs great (6800 with 2800 Athlon 64 and 1gb ram)
Really well done, will be playing this game quite a bit I think, though the biggest thing that will hamper me is I'm still playing a lot of WoW, and Battlefield 2.

Played about 5mins of SP and was pretty ho-hum normal.
I was going into this thinking it was going to be fun (not great), but fun....and i'm struggling to find that so far....i'll try some more.....but having to even "try" to enjoy the game is sort of self defeating.
for example in quake 3:
/bind mouse2 "weapon 5;sensitivity 12"
/bind z "weapon 6;sensitivity 9.5"

the big issues:
rocket speed, splash size and density of splash damage. (by density i mean how fast does damage drop off from the center of the rocket splash)
movement. (someone said it has qw movement physics? if this is true it could be enough to get me to play it).
armour. (please tell me it isn't the shitty, weak-ass q3 armour system)
grapple?

The Longest Yard and the Edge in one game. I love those maps...
So do the MP levels have jump pads?
Are there bots? Smacking down bots always made me feel like a pro :)

I preordered the CE.
I wore my Q4 shirt.
I left work to pick it up and took the rest of the day off.
I dedicated 12 hours yesterday to sitting in front of my PC playing.
I was not disappointed

but all of a sudden, i can't play my lord of the rings: battle for middle earth game
ever since i installed quake 4, now i get a directx error when i start the other game. i uninstalled/reinstalled the game/dx and it still doesn't work.
is there something special about the version of directx (9.0c) that comes with quake 4?? i just want my other game to work too :(
