I have a hard time seeing how the Spurs are not going to repeat, unless Duncan gets injured badly. Other than that I look forward to seeing the massively upgraded Cavaliers, the amount of wins Phil Jackon will get out of an anemic Lakers roster, and of course a better playoffs run for the Mavericks. I also read that Amare Stoudemire has been working on three pointers this summer; if he can add a halfway decent outside shot to go along with his inside game..yikes. Movie: I didn't invent the rainy day, man. I just own the best umbrella.

The OFP Shackbattle is back on!!!
I'll be out of town/contact for the next few days, so before I go I'd like to let everyone know that the Flashpoint Shackbattle is green-lighted once again (yay for being back in Houston/on broadband). The dates I'm proposing for it are the 29th and 30th of this month. I'd like to do it sooner, but lots of stuff is scheduled this month, so the soonest I'm going to be able to really get things organized is going to cause it to fall on that weekend or the next one (5th and 6th of November). themelon is going to be hosting the server, so many thanks should be directed his way for all of this. I think it would definitely be possible for us to do a practice session on the 15th, we can work out squad leader roles/communication/etc in that period and get some trigger-time in. The main effort of the Shackbattle would of course fall on the 29th/30th, and we can do them every and then every other weekend after that assuming that everyone's up for it. Come December we'll all likely be switching over to Armed Assault, too, so that'll be all kinds of totally sweet and awesome.

I think, in German, a potato is a "kartoffel", right? So "kartoffelsinen" would be potato juice? Is this correct?
So, then, what language is a "erdapfel"? It would translate in German to "Earth Apple", which we all know is a potato, but what language is it? I think it may be Dutch, but it sounds German, and dutch doesn't sound like German to me, it's much cuter. So am I getting the two confused? I gotta know NOW :(

Some people said it looked good, some panned it, most meh'd. I loved Morrowind so I expected to be impresed, but...
holy shit, wow, seriously. Just hearing the theme at the beginning was enough, but the radiant AI (rudimentary but pretty fucking cool in terms of new gameplay options), the physics, the locals.... fucking bonertastic. I have a raging hardon for this game, seriously.

I swear I just had a freaky moment of de ja vou... I walked in an office that I have never been to before and was looking for a manual for a printer. I stopped had the momment and then walked over to a file cabinet opened the bottom drawer and moved some papers..... and it was there.... I swear I am not the one..... help me

I saw "History of Violence" today which was very awesome. Do not trust the rottentomatoes reviews; it is not a movie about moral value and violence. It's a 90 minute story of if provoked, viggo mortensen just might shoot you in the face then rip your nose off. The movie is fucking raw.
At one point in the movie, Viggo choke-slams his wife against a wall and then fucks the shit out of her on a wooden staircase. I can't believe it didn't get an NC-17 rating. What an awesome movie. ZLONK

summary:
getting mail is a FUCKING PAIN IN THE ASS. sitting there clicking on attachment after attachment after attachment waiting for the goddamn things to go into your inventory SUCKS.
my suggestion is to impliment a 'take all attachments' button which would drop any non-cod attachments, such as returned items and money attachments from sold items, into your inventory with one click. Even if it took the server the same amount of time to process all of the attachments, it would only be ONE CLICK and thus a FUCKING LOT FASTER than it is now.
i believe this is a suggestion everyone can get behind. blizzard benefits by bandwidth savings (one request, instead of dozens) and we benefit by not spending a goddamn half hour in front of the mailbox. no ones getting nerfed, no ones getting buffed, everyone wins.

I think Josh Whedon killed off Book and Wash in order to bring the series back, if the movie did well enough.
Reasoning:
Alan Tudyk is becoming something of a rising star. He's been in quite a few movies in the past few years, including a couple of A list movies. Ron Glass is already an established actor. Ron's salary is probably pretty high already and Alan's is getting higher every movie he makes. To keep costs down and make a series more attractive, they are bringing their costs down. The only other "known" actor on the show is Adam Baldwin, but he's not exactly a star.
I just hope that the movie picks up a bit of steam on word of mouth and that DVD sales go gangbusters like they did for the series.

Last year a little network called ABC all of the sudden found itself with something it hadn't had in awhile. A hit show. Somehow, they pulled off two hit shows in one season. Lost and Desperate Housewives. Both shows seemed like something else on the surface. On the surface, Lost looked like it was going to be gory, and violent, and mean and edgy. Plane crashes and monsters to name a couple of key points that stick out in the minds of the viewing public. Desperate Housewives was a middle aged TnA soap opera. Models cheating with 17yr olds and shirts that show aging women nipping out were key points there.
However, under all of that, the two were both mystery shows. Both shows started with ... a bang so to speak. Both shows focused on twisting characters together in an interesting story. Both shows worked to bring more mystery by the time the clock ran out to have you tune in next time to get the answer. Both shows never gave away too much and always brought something new in when they could. In so many ways, these two shows were hits because they used the same winning formula.
That said, Desperate Housewives pulled it off WAY better then Lost. Both shows are now one season and two episodes in. However, Desperate Housewives built up to the Season Finale and gave us answers. The mystery of the season ... was solved. However, NEW mystery abounds as a new family moves in. Fresh new elements exist and we are not just slaves to the TUNE IN NEXT WEEK slogan. You want to tune in for the story and not because you have been teased. Lost is a tease. God damn it, it is a good show for the acting, the story, and so MANY MANY other things. Maybe it is limited in its setting on how much it can give away (a new family can't just move in but in a way, it has, or will this week). The problem is Lost just doesn't know how to let go! If you stick and carrot people too long, they eventually say fuck the carrot, I’m going to McDonalds even though they REALLY LIKE carrots! Before season 2 of Lost started, lost of jibber jabber went around about how the Lost gurus had seen the errors in their ways and were going to finally give us some answers. No. They spread the season opener across two weeks. Not the first time they have lied! Last season they said Arzt would be a major player in Season 2. Yea, as fertilizer.
My point? My point is to discuss what makes a good story. If you have read The DaVinci Code you have seen the Lost-esque teaser quality in print! You wondered where the "dun Dun DUUUUUUNNNN!!!!" music was at the end of the chapter. So, even though you may have enjoyed the story, that method was ... shit. The biggest difference is that the book HAS to end. Lost can continue with this act until the plug is pulled. With out saying "this show will run for 4 years, then that’s it never to be seen again" as is done in other culture's TV entertainment, they are just setting themselves up to hold back what they can so as not to blow their load and have nothing left to do. When we talked about this EARLY this morning, someone mentioned X-Files. I think X-Files is a great example of a show that got lost in its own mystery. Luckily that show could have contained episodes once in awhile (turned more often then not) so it didn't have to fully rely on the main story arc.
Again back to discussing what makes a good story. When it comes to keeping the audience in suspense, what are some examples in print, theatre, etc. that have done a good job? When is too much too much? Who am I kidding? With the daywalkers, this is surely going to degrade into an "OMG LOST IS AWESOME" vs "NO ITS NOT" thread...

I know there is a way to burn an "image" or something like that of a CD. Can I do this for a game CD? I recently re-installed StarCraft to whoop on a kid from school, and I don't want to get it all scratched up, so I wanna be able to click on some Icon on the desktop and start the game up w/ out the disc.
