by Maarten Goldstein, Sep 17, 2005 7:02am PDTBeen playing Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy) since yesterday, and I'm really enjoying it. I haven't really played an adventure game in years, but after the demo I quickly became interested in this title. Several hours in I'm certainly not disappointed. The story is a bit uneven at times, but the presentation is great and it's neat to switch between different characters as you try to solve the game's mystery. I get the feeling it isn't a particular lengthy game, but the options presented in each chapter should allow for replayability. Movie: You just don't understand the love affairs between ships and sailors.

Information Request + Memorial Comments
Harkov's brother posted in the thread about him ( http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=10761518 ) with some further information about the accident, and a request for a poster who might have been witness to said accident to contact him.
The following is what he Shackmessaged me, which can also be found at the above Shacklink. I don't personally recall anyone posting about having witnessed the accident, but perhaps I overlooked a post.. in any case, here's what he sent. If anyone can help to clear this up, feel free to step up and give him a call/e-mail.

During that time he could of slammed right into her door, but took it upon himself to lean his hardest to the right and hit the back door. Yes, the girl was pretty from what I was told, he did not want to hurt her. You can tell by the streak mark,. it's straight all the way till 6 feet from initial impact. His front tire clipped her back wheel causing the car to spin to the opposite outside lanes. The bike is in perfect shape other then the gas tank which is damaged b.c. it's so thin. He was not speeding, this was not the factor. and if he was all it did was caused him to not deal with being crippled for life. Hey, now I need your help. Anyone who knew Andrew I need some support, anything that can stand up in court. I read a posting when the accident happened of someone who was at the seen of the accident, I would like to know his name to ask questions. Two uncredible witnesses are claiming he was speeding, but it' s totally not true b.c. the first he was coming out of my mothers neighborhood at 35 for a short distance and the road splits to 4 lanes at 45mph. thus he passed her as any normal bike rider would on the left lane. Then the other witness was going the opposite direction and the cop even told me she/he could not have seen it. She/he said the bike slid the entire time till impact, no way. The bike never slid, it was on all 2 till impact. Hey, they are trying to justify not having a 16 yr old girl charged with making a mistake, but hey... someone is at fault and it's not Andrew. Loved KOTOR 1. Owned the original 'Bard's Tale' games for the C-64 back in the '80s (but I shyed away from this version because it looked like a cheesy version of Diablo 2 and nothing like the Bard's Tale games).

So my Dell Dj screen stops working earlyer today, and i get home around 12 and call them, they basically say they can't do anything to help it. The problem is that text won't show up on teh screen, backlight works, it plays music, but i can't get the damn text to show up! I try resetting the firmware etc. etc.

I remove the rubber caps and then get to the screws, i'm using my small, and realitivly sharp screw driver at this point, and i'm prying the top end cap off, as i do this the bundle of stuff starts to come up in teh casing, i get the top end cap off and then as i push it back into the casing, i PUNCTURE THE FUCKING BATTERY with the screw driver. ITs a jewelers screw driver so the head comes off no problem and i quick turn it away. AS its dont htis its making a wierd air rushing sound, and then smoke starts to come up (or came out with the air rushing sound, i don't really know), then BAMN! Explosion, not a big one but enough of one to make a pretty loud "bang", i quick grab it, go to the front door and throw it as far as i can in case it goes bang again. When i was carying it to the door it was hot to the touch.
Anyways, TLDR me=dumbass. I just want to know A.) WTF i was thinking in taking it apart, and B, what the fuck that smoke was.

Since I get such a kick out of the shack's reponse to spiders (hi, thekidd!), I decided to record one of my tarantulas feeding. I let a cricket lose in his cage and let him work his magic. The cricket is the same color as the dirt, so he can be kind of hard to see, but in the beginning of the video he's right between the two plants on the right. You shouldn't have any problems seeing him when he moves though.

For size reference, the spider is about 3.5" long (front leg to back leg). He's the biggest one I have right now, and more agressive than the other two, which is why he's good to record. Also he'll grow up to be at least 7", possibly as big as 9". We're gonna need a bigger boat cage.

I think I know the answer to this question but I don't want to fuck this up since the data in question is fairly important. But I have two servers (housebackup and housingserver) and I need to scp all the data from the directory /Volumes/Utilities/keep/ on housebackup to the directory /Volumes/New/ on housingserver. I have users on each system that have full access to the files and directories in question so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm pretty sure I just need to use the "-r" option when copying, but I just want someone to verify that before I start copying.
Also, is there a way to keep the file/folder permissions from the old system to the new? If not, I can write a quick script to set them correctly.. just wondering if I could save a step with a simple option int he scp.
