by Steve Gibson, Sep 16, 2005 6:00pm PDTLadies, you're all a little bicurious ok? Just remember even though you like to have some clam chowder among company sometimes, you still favor sausage.. and not just for breakfast! Hm... was that crude?

Okay, you absolutely MUST do a story on the recent Plague that is affecting world of warcraft.
Heres the skinny: Blizzard adds in a new instance, Zul'Gurub. Inside is the god of blood, Hakkar. Well, when you fight him he has a debuff called Corrputed Blood. It does like 250-350 damage to palyers and affects nearby players. The amazing thing is SOME PLAYERS have brought this disease (and it is a disease) back to the towns, outside of the instance. It starts spreading amongst the genral population including npcs, who can out generate the damage. Some servers have gotten so bad that you can't go into the major cities without getting the plague (and anyone less than like level 50 nearly immediately die).
GM's even tried quarantining players in certain areas, but the players kept escaping the quarentine and infect other players.
I think a story on how blizzard dealt with what is now an epidemic and how it came about would be awesome.

While the supplementary material is pretty lacking, I was completely awed by the quality of the DTS soundtrack. I always look for DTS versions of flicks on DVD because the mixes are always better than AC-3 (Dolby Digital for those of you who weren't around for laserdiscs, heh).
AC-3 tracks on DVDs don't seem to be required to meet any standards for overall volume, dynamic range, etc. Each and every AC-3 DVD is different -- which sucks, because one you setup the reciever to proper levels, unless each disc is the same, some stuff will sound good, some will sound bad, and some, well, sound like complete dog squeeze.
However, DTS tracks seem to be pretty standard across all DVDs which makes me very happy. I don't have to get out the SPL meter and re-adjust speaker levels each time I want to watch something in DTS.
At least with laserdiscs the audio tracks, whether they were analog, digital, or AC-3, were pretty much standardized across the board.
... oh, and thank god you can skip over the previews at the beginning of the HHGTTG DVD. I can't tell you how much I f'n loathe the DVDs that disable skipping, fast forwarding, etc., the trailers and/or legal screens...

Impressive. But what can I do with this thing besides playing games? I mean can it play mp3s, movies and stuff? FYI I'm in the market for a small gadget that can do those things. Gaming is not priority though. I find PSP is too big and risky to carry around.
More pics on how damn small the thing is: http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/645/645774p3.html

I should've known Walt was who they wanted. I never forgot about the bird incident (one of the advantages of watching the episodes one after another). But I just figured they all might've been special.
What else do I need to know that you guys have figured out? I checked wikipedia and all, but what theories are out there for...everything?

This is a pretty cool example of the types of interfaces and interactivity we can look forward to in Windows Vista. It's a photo sharing program, similar to Picasa, built using WinFX. Allows easy sharing of photos across the net without any effort on the users part. You can install it on Windows XP (home or professional) with SP2. Check it out:
