  • In other Valve-esque MP news, if anyone sees a Zombie-CS server in their list, I strongly recommend giving it a try. I've been playing it a lot recently, and it's been great fun.

The zombies get 400+ (depending on server setup) HP and it regenerates, but they only get knives. Oh and they can burn you, fairly randomly, if they get up close to you. Some places will also restrict the weapons.
It comes in two variants - one where the zombies are bot controlled (in which case look for a server where the human players are outnumbered approx 3 to 1, for a balanced fun time), one where you can play as both sides (1 on 1 seems about right).

As usual, this being the Internet, there are jackasses who manage to steal all the fun for themselves. Particularly in this game's case, players who climb to places where the bots can't reach, thereby removing all challenge for themselves and all fun for anyone who happens to have died already that round. Similar climbing antics make it pretty sucky for humans playing as zombies, though it's less infuriatingly impossible. Look for people who will refuse to balance the teams too, on non-bot servers.
Ie, as usual, find a server that has an admin within arm's reach.

When you do, there's nothing quite like defending your little section of the map from wave after wave of destruction, struggling desperately to conserve ammo, being driven back and then pushing forward, covering your buddys' backs, etc. Coming from someone who often finds CS quite a lonely experience where no one can be trusted to back you up and your teammates will more often get you killed than anything else, it's a welcome change!
