A few bits of Q3A Mac news for you guys. First off I spotted this press release on yahoo announcing the Mac version of Q3A shipping. After that, you can check out the freshly opened Mac Q3A FAQ over at the Activision page. Lastly, the Q3A point release beta was released last week for Win32 along with Graeme Devine stating that the Mac and Linux builds would follow shortly after, well in case you're wondering where they are, michael got this quick response from Graeme simply stating this:

"We've held off because of bugs in the point release.."

  • Something that Todd Hollenshead pointed me to on the Quake3World when I was complaining that sv_pure didn\'t default to 0 in the point release:

To clear up a few misconceptions about pure servers:
Pure servers will allow people with custom skins, maps, mods, etc. to play on them as long as the client isn\'t trying to run a different version of the map and player models that the server is running (to prevent all sorts of cheating, some of which has been mentioned here and some of which has not). The issue with people getting kicked from pure servers that had new maps, etc. was a bug that we believe has been addressed in the BETA point release.

Once the point release goes final I think most server admins will want to run sv_pure 1 to prevent cheating because the only benefit of running sv_pure 0 would be allowing unpatched clients to connect. Right now, however, I personally believe that most servers should be running sv_pure 0 unless the games are part of tournaments, etc.

I\'ll give up my rail graphic mod, if it means I can play normally otherwise.
