The community for Savage still exists and this can only bring it extra life... it's dirt cheap now and with the community patches it works a dream. Why this game didn't reach critical mass confounds me.
This is a must have as soon as it comes out.

I also really like s2 games, so I'm happy to see that they are going to continue with this IP.
Even with superior ranged weapons, I always wanted to zig-zag my way into close quaters and mix it up.

1) Don't put out such a good demo. IIRC, the demo servers were always full and people spent months playing on them without having to buy the full game even though the demo only had one race and few maps.
2) Do something about the NPCs to discourage newbies from spending all of their time killing them instead of playing the game. Give less experience points for each subsequent kill of a particular NPC type (law of diminishing returns) and limit the $ so tha tmining becomes a viable option.
3) Mining by players was never fully realized either. Mining orders from the commander were almost universally ignored after the first two minutes of the game. Perhaps something as simple as having a 5% chance of hitting a huge deposit at 10x the $ would make it more interesting.
4) Since it's almost impossible to perfectly hard balance the tech trees, put in some other mechanism to assure the various branches will be followed equally. One way to do that would be to make a rock-paper-scissors relationship amongst the branches so that outguessing your opponent carries more weight than any advantages gained by picking the 'best' starting branch.
I guess it's possible that the game has evolved to the point where these suggestions are meaningless, if so my apologies.

And if you played Savage prior to the 2.0 patch then you missed out on what should have been the released version as it was a completely rehauled game. All new netcode, a healer class, reworked items system, graphical upgrades, etc.
Savage 2 should fit the bill quite nicely next year. I'm totally hyped.
Savage was way ahead of its time. Looking forward to this!
And after he left, I was still playing it. The next day, I played some more... for about a month.
The game ended up being really fun, even to just be a Behemoth and fucking throw down with a big tree, when you would get like 10 Behemoths going at once, it was gg other team, fun stuff.
It has it's problems, but it was a fun game, and I might just buy the 2nd one...
