Check out Pandora: http://pandora.com/
Just opened to the public today. It uses the Music Genome Project to find the music you'll like. It's like your own personalized radio station. At first I wasn't impressed when I heard about it, but once I tried out, I was hooked. 10 hours is free, after that it's just $36 for a year of musical bliss.
My thoughts and more info on Pandora on my site: http://goodblimey.com/archives/2005/08/29/pandora-your-own-radio-station/

ATI now expects revenues for the fourth quarter to be in the range of $465 - $480 million(1), compared to the expected range of $550 - $580 million provided on June 23, 2005.
ATI's desktop product line missed both in units and average selling prices for the retail and add-in-board (or System Integrator) channels. All other product lines are expected to be in line with company expectations for both revenue and gross margin.

pretty underwhelming for a full fledged expansion pack, imo.

Of course the article doesn't disclose the details very well. But I got the story today.. police said he was going somewhere near 130mph! I don't see how the girl on the bike survived if it is true they were going that fast, she would of been tossed extremely far you would think.
Extremely stupid going that fast especially on that road, I know the exact spot too where it happened. It turns slightly to the right and the corn fields block view pretty easily. He died in another guys arms in the middle of the road while coughing up blood very shortly after the accident.. damn that is some crazy shit.

I am having intermittent interruptions of my cable tv and cable internet simultaneously. I have had three line techs out and they have not been able to reproduce the problem. It is unsurprising then that they have been unable to repair the problem. The people at my cable company are having trouble believing me at this point. Here's where you come in: I need a program that will log when my internet connection is down. my milk is delicious Something as simple as a ping/traceroute that appends to a text file would be enough. I tested ping -t www.yahoo.com >> log.txt but it doesn't save the time with each attempt and isn't easily parsable. Please help! These people think I'm nuts. :(

SimCity.
I was thinking, going over a bridge in Baltimore, how I was feeling creative and industrious and wanted to play some SimCity 4 again, but then realized that as the city grew the game slowed down alot on my system. Then I was thinkin about how I have now about five computers in my apartment that have no purpose and how much I'd like them to have reason to be powered on, and suddenly realized how cool it could be if you could offload certain aspects of the simulation to other systems on the network which would do just that processing and leave other stuff to the game client itself (or other "servers," I suppose you could have a traffic server, and an environmental server, an RCI server, or whatever) which could concentrate on just keeping the pretty pictures on the screen in motion and stuff like that.
But it'll never happen, oh well.

For some reason, I've been thinking more and more about mountain biking of late (probably the onset of a midlife crisis). Anyone here an enthusiast or perhaps given it a try?
I'm trying to gauge the difficulty leve; how in-shape I'll have to be (currently... not so much); fears I should have about the family jewels; etc. I like hiking and I'm a so-so skier, so I know I'll like the views. I just don't know enough about the pros and cons to decide if it's worth the investment. (A lesson with equipment rentals around here runs $150-$200. Obviously I won't make any final decisions about the sport until after I've tried it a couple times.)
Thanks!

It's a miracle: mice regrow hearts
SCIENTISTS have created "miracle mice" that can regenerate amputated limbs or damaged vital organs, making them able to recover from injuries that would kill or permanently disable normal animals.
The experimental animals are unique among mammals in their ability to regrow their heart, toes, joints and tail.
And when cells from the test mouse are injected into ordinary mice, they too acquire the ability to regenerate, the US-based researchers say.
