Yeah, enough with this bloom stuff.

The problem with it centers around simulating how a video camera lens behaves when you radically adjust the exposure up or down. The effect seems so unnatural because our eyes don't work this way.

Our eyes can handle far greater extremes in contrast without losing details.

The other day I took out my digital camera pointed at the kitchen window and put the exposure down 5 stops. The scene was dark, and all of the detail was present. Then, I put the lens up 10 stops (+5) and the whole area inside the window was overblown and whited out.

Meanwhile, the way my natural eye saw the scene was completely balanced between the two.

I think this bloom stuff is a fad, I hope so anyway. It's certainly not any attempt at recreating what our eyes should see.

Remember when Ghost Recon used to be cool? :( Seriously... Ubi has essentially destroyed the Tom Clancy line of games (except for Splinter Cell - so far... anyway)

I'm still waiting for ghost recon 2 for pc.

ubisoft won't have any of my business.

I've been a gamer since 1983 and I am sick of these games being turned into arcade style games.

Tom Clancy games were closer to simulators for years. Then ubisoft steps in and now we have a ghost holding his SMG at an angle like he's some stupid gang banger.

BOYCOTT UBISOFT!!!

Bring back RSE.

the PC created online gaming and it created simulator gaming. The industry is making a ton of money off new-age gamers.

I tell you "industry", Those new-age gamers aren't going to spend $500 on a video card to play your crappy arcade games.

Every 2 years I spend at least $6000 on a new system. I want good games.

where is nvidia and ati pressuring these game pubs to stop making crap and start making stuff that actually needs a $500 video card?

I must admit the Xbox 360 shots look worse than any previous Xbox 360 shots I've seen - the 360 is meant to be quite powerful (at the moment) vs a PC - yet the PC shots own the 360 backwards? >:(

Let's just hope we are at the "peak" of bloom with this game and that future games wont have so much. Hell even Chessmaster 10th edition has bloom but luckily there is an option to turn it on or off an default is off.

I like these screen shots. The game looks awesome. I've seen video of it, and the bloom you're all bitching about is fine in motion because it changes as you move away/towards the sun.

I couldn't help but notice all the bloom in these screenshots. Has anyone posted any remarks about the amount of bloom presented in these screenshots yet? Because there seems to be an awful lot of bloom in these screenshots, and it seems to me like someone should mention something about the amount of bloom seen in these screenshots. Furthermore: BLOOMEDIBLOOMBLOOM BLOOM BLOOM.

In defense, hopefully the HDR/bloom stuff or whatever it is will look better in motion. But it could actually open up some interesting gameplay options with having to be careful of which way the sun is especially when you go from shadow to light areas.

Not many graphic advances have affected gameplay all that much, but at least HDR could? So maybe we should judge how it is used gameplay wise rather than just judging it on screenshots.

At least this one seems to be a bit less Michael Bay, and still maintain some intelligence (I'm basing this off the E3 video I saw, however). But there doesn't seem to be very much Fear Factory or THIS TIME IT'S PERSONAL elements that might be involved.

But still.
