The Friday Steam news update is now available, covering various topics. Lost Coast, Day of Defeat, and Aftermath are all described as getting close to being done, with Lost Coast coming "in a couple of weeks". The singleplayer add-on will come with a commentary system like the PC version of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay, and Valve mentions that if people like this, they'll consider adding it to future titles. There's also word another third party Steam game will be announced next week, and there are two screenshots from a new SAS model coming soon to Counter-Strike: Source

  • Well damn, I was hoping that there'd be some thought provoking discussion in this thread about what game "another new game that will be coming to Steam that wasn't built here at Valve" was talking about.

My guess, perhaps Dark Messiah is going to be released over Steam? Doubtful because it's published by Ubisoft, who obviously wouldn't be thrilled to have Steam distribution cutting into their profits.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised to see the usual bout of "wah wah wah" about these Steam news updates always promising and not delivering. Haven't you people realised yet that Valve _always_ slip on release dates? This is simply because Gabe won't let anything out that isn't polished to near perfection. The reason why these weekly Steam news updates were started was to stop the rumours and whinging and to let the fans know what was going on at Valve.

  • I don't understand why people complain, a short announcement is better than nothing,

I work with Maya making effects for movies, and believe me..deadlines are a bitch, it's always really hard to keep them because of quality assurance... a texture can always be better, and a model can be improved, animation can always be more interesting and with more weight... and (in games) a map optimized a bit more... so its a fine balance between time you got, and the quality you aim for... and like in any artistic job, there is no right or wrong categorically, so your boss (or client) can always come and ask you to improve something a bit more, and you can't say anything... because its up to personal taste.
