Blizzard has announced that the Diablo 2 1.11 patch is now available, only a few days after the initial announcement. At FileShack you can download the patch for the original game and the Lord of Destruction expansion pack. Read about changes at Battle.net.

A new Mystery has been revealed!
  • Players of Hell Difficulty Realm games are hereby warned once again, that a series of new and challenging tests await you! The answer lies within Diablo's Bosses, which span across the world from the Den of Evil to the Throne of Destruction...
    New Items
  • Added 10 New Runewords.
  • Added new Unique Items that will drop from Special Bosses.
    Hireling Enhancements
  • Players can purchase hirelings that are within 1-5 levels below their own level.
  • The rate at which hirelings gain experience has been increased. They should now stay closer to the player's level.
In other Blizzard news the company has announced it is closing Blizzard North, moving most of its employees there to the Irvine headquarters. The (former) North team is working on an unannounced project.

IMO D2 is about at least 50,000 times better than WoW.

In D2 every class has SEVERAL (5+) different viable templates, compared to WoW where most classes only have one or two useful skill-templates.
Equipment and weapons in D2 are just a million times more interesting and diverse than what they are in WoW. In WoW one Arcanite Reaper is exactly the same as the next one, in D2 every weapon attribute and damage bonus are random.
          In D2 you've got Runewords.
In D2 you've got Horadric Cube.
          In D2 you've got gems.
In D2 you've got millions, or maybe billions of different armor and weapons.

I played WoW for 3-4 months, and by that time I had 2500gold, every singel rare/epic BoE item you could possible think of and a lot of BoPs too.
Doing just another MC/BRD run to try at get the exact same item as someone else have is just too boring.
When you have played a mage to level 60 in WoW, there is no point in making another one to try out a different template, because there is nothing else to try out.

          WoW & PvP is/was a joke. A sad one too. :(

All I really want from WoW now is random items. I think that would make the game much more interesting and varied. At least with the new hunter talent tree they made it dramactically better and you will have a wide variety of traits.

That said I can't go back and play D2 ever again, I'm done with that.

Some items actually have random stats in the form of a range.

You might get a sword that could have an agility stat of +3,+4 or +5.

They've both got plusses. For me playing with other real people is much better than what D2 has to offer, and yes I've played through Hell difficulty.

+ the AH (gotta love makin' teh monies!)
+ redistributable talent points; ability to use all trees just not as strongly
+ world size - feels much more "explorable"

Not really knockin' D2, it's one of the best games I've ever played. WoW is not really a replacement for it, but instead a newer and different type of fun.

the ability trees for classes are way cooler in D2 than WoW. WoW was pretty much the same thing every single level.
