New Halo Shots
by Steve Gibson, Jan 07, 2000 8:38pm PSTBungie was showing off that oh so incredible Halo game once again. GameSpot slapped up 3 new images of the game which are looking smooth as always. Here are all the rest of the images. I would like this game now, thanks. Oh, and ditch that 3rd person stuff.

Halo is 3rd person by default, but can be played in 1st person. Like Q3 is 1st person by default but can be played in 3rd person.
First good point I\'ve made in a while, and it\'s taken 2 days to get it out.
Boogieman
To have my camera hitched on a wall somewhere while someone is ripping me apart with a turret mounted machine gun on a jeep.
If there is a lot of person based combat, I think excluding a first person view would be a major mistake. Personally I find third person view hasn\'t offered the accuracy or personal control that I have with a first person view. Position, direction and aiming are just easier, because they all stem from the same vantage point. In first person, where your reticle is aimed is where you are facing, the center of any circle strafing, and the target of all your weapons. Also turning seems much faster, since you don\'t have to rotate your camera around a point 20 feet infront of you.
That being said, sometimes the extra fov from third person can save a lot of looking around. I guess it depends on wether Halo is more an FPS or more an RTS. Hopefully they will provide the option to play in either third or first person. Either way I think I will own a copy 8).
(I\'m going to get a lot of shit for this, but oh well)
MARIO 64! Granted this was a puzzle game, but I think it does prove a point, you CAN make good 3rd person games if you try.
And until the demo comes out everyone should shut the fuck up.
A different concept means looking at somthing familiar and making
it something new......
Create and innovate...... or whither on the vine with the bad grapes.
damn, when i get drunk, i tend to rhryme, or at least alliterate ;)~
everyone here is scared of learning new perspectives and concepts...
Halo, im just speculating, will not be that far from FPS controls, but
just a little extra learning...... and very adjustable.... and very cool..
\'bout time the genre\' busted out again! gettin\' a little stale if ya ask me..
muhahahahahaha
Pointless to be sure. I hate myself for not keeping my trap shut during these kinds of threads, but dammit, its the shack and Im apparently powerless to resist.
To summarize my beef is with people who immediately write the game off due to:
a) it not being or playing like a fps when it was never intended to be fps (and I understand and can accept your point midshift - thats cool then)
b) poor control in previous 3rd person games (action or otherwise) means that Halo\'s controls are going to suck by default. Never mind that we havent seen/tried them out, thats irrelevant... =P
Hey, Halo might suck - no problem (though I\'ll be the first to admit I\'d be pretty disappointed). But to write it off at this point, to even unequivicolly say it wont be as good as it *could* be, for the above reasons, well thats just plain dumb.
yet based on speculation of ppl that dont know sh*t.
Play games with an open mind and a willingness to learn when it comes
out.
Otherwise, everyone should just go back to playing single player pong.
If its good, it will succeed. If its bad, it will fail.
HALO SUCKS!
3rd person sucks
TF2 and Tribes2 will FUCKING DESTROY that piece of shit Halo.
Graphics don\'t make a game... all this hype is really pissing me off.
And even the graphics look like shit, I have no idea what everyone is so crazy about... even the graphics look like a cross between Messiah and Tribes. So pathetic.
Halo sucks...
Huh ? No one said that..
What \"I\" said was that i havent found ANY 3rd person games that had controls as nice and fluid as a typical FPS. Mech3 has been the only exception, but that\'s slow paced, and i really really doubt that Halo is going to be like that. The pointless debate right now (at least how i see it) is that whether the selection of 3rd person mode for Halo will turn to be a mistake or not.
Unlike you some people won\'t be glazed over by the graphics and proclaim Halo to be the second coming, even if it has controls as bad as Drakan.
Thats a better one, eh ? Or is it ? ;)
Blah, damn you.
First you post #42 with a \"w3rd\" to the idiots who think that anyone who doesnt like current 3rd person controls is bound to be an fps junkie. Then you do an about turn and make fun of them ? Whats the deal ?
<sound of point going completely over skids head>
Starcraft wasn\'t smooth and fluid ? Thats news to me.
You\'re making some astounding revalations today aren\'t you. Heretic2 was Hexen2 in 3rd person, Starcraft was jerky and choppy. Whatever will you come up with next ? Please do continue with your higly entertaining tirade of baseless generalizations. I\'ll check back later for your next pearl of wisdom.
Yeah, Starcraft, that was an ass game. Wasnt smooth and fluid like Quake. And shit, you know, that Diablo *could* have been a cool game if only there was a first person perspective. Maybe in the sequel....
Your sarcasm is coming off as stupid. Don\'t stupidly assume that no one here hasn\'t played more than one 3rd person games. I\'ve played a LOT, and there haven\'t been any that felt smooth or fluid.
W3rd brothers.
Unfortunately, not too many of the chimps are gonna get what you\'re saying. Ah well, not our worries....
Games that aren\'t first-person shooters shouldn\'t be judged like one, whether it\'s an RTS, scrolling platformer, or something with more similarities like these chase camera action/adventure games.
3 -- That\'s the art you\'re looking at man, don\'t confuse the two.
Yeah it was called Hexen2. =P
I have 100% complete faith that Bungie will put out a kickass, insanely fun game. Its a given, just like the sun rising in the east.
