According to a story on Kikizo Games, both Hitman: Blood Money and Tomb Raider: Legend have been delayed until early 2006. According to Eidos, the decision to delay the games was made to "maximise their hit potential".

Is this a sign of a publisher actually having a semblance of a clue of what makes a good game? Is Eidos changing its oh so "wise" ways at last?

      I doubt it.

Developer: Dude, we're going to need like another year to make this game.

Eidos: Ok, you got an extra six months!

      Developer: Goddamnit.

well, in the case of hitman, they received quite a lot of criticism over contracts being released very soon after silent assasin (turning it into a yearly release) - blood money might not have sold that well (or been received well by critics) if there wasnt much improvement over contracts.
