so im learning some cool tihngs on my internship here in germany. i got to go to a lab yesterday that is working with terahertz radiation. my german is not so good and their english aint either but they showed me this machine which supposedly generates terahertz light. that was so fucking cool it was green and static-y, the germans told me that the static is really microscopic dust that is not visible in normal light but the terahertz light illuminates it. but why the hell was it green?
they started talking about ome other shit like how humans actually emit terahertz radiation in a small field around them and I got to thinking.
i have a lot of incoherent and probably nonsensical rambling questions which might lead this thread into hippy/stoner land but whatever...
people who drop acid claim to see auras around people. ive used other hallucinogens but never got my hands on the real acid that generates this effect, so I cant speak from experience. could the auras just be the acid sensitizing their eyes to see light beyond the normal visible spectrum? and the auras are actually terahertz radiation?
supposedly the reason we can see visible light is because it is the most prevalent form of radiation coming from the sun. so like does the acid unlock our eyes full capabilities in the same way that it unlocks the mind from societies conditioning?

That is the question. Currently, my PC consists of :
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1GB RAM
Abit Nforce 2 mobo
Radeon 9800 Pro
The rest doesn't really matter, my question is this: does it make sense to get a GeForce 6800? I can get one for 194 bucks USD from Newegg. I'm just concerned about havin enough juice to run next years games such as F.E.A.R., Gears of War, Elder Scrolls IV, Age of Empires III, and so on. Is the 6800 that big of a step up from a 9800 Pro? It may be another two years before I can afford to purchase brand new system. Please private message me with advice fellow shackers. These posts are hard to keep tabs on!
I just bought the new Futurama DVD off Amazon Marketplace, and this morning found my e-mail stuffed full of spam that was sent within an hour of the order being confirmed. Of course, unlike every other online shop I use, Amazon is directed at my primary e-mail address which up until now was 100% spam free :(

Anyways, it reminded me of very similar experience I was close to when I was kid growing up in a small town just outside of Calgary (Canada).
There was this big string of bank robberies in Calgary and surrounding area at the time that was baffling police. The case was fairly big as I think this guy ended up robbing something like 40+ banks in the end (can’t recall the exact number but it was well over 20 -- I remember that much). It was all in a fairly short period of time too, maybe 5 months at best. Anyways, so they end up catching the guy and our family just happened to watching the news at the time when they plaster the guys face all over the TV. Turns out this guy is a Police Officer and not only that, he’s my best friend’s dad!
Of course, the chaos ensues at our place. My family is quickly scrambling to turn off the TV while I am asking questions like “why is (blanks) Dad on Televevision?†MY Dad is having a mental breakdown trying to think of some remotely reasonable lie he can pass along to me while he is trying to comprehend the whole thing himself.
Anyways, to make a long story short(er), it was a rather traumatic (and it retrospect – humorous) week around my household; which eventually ended up with me being banned from the other kids house. We moved shortly after (maybe 6-8 months), still unsure if that was related to the whole situation or not.
Wish I could find the story but it seems to be pre internet-news times.

MEGA SHACK HELP POST OF HELP
Hi shackers. I'm indecisive and useless, so I need some help. Before I start school in september, I have a couple things I need to purchase.
1) Laptop
2) 17 or 19 (pref. 19) inch LCD screen to replace 2 x 17" crts
3) Digital Camera
So, laptop. I am pretty sure I will be taking my desktop with me, so all signs point towards a smaller laptop that is easier to take to class being what I need. HOWEVER, i really really hate small screens when it comes to doing work. I'm one of those people who has basically embraced multi monitor setups and i have a hard time with say, the 12" ibooks because it feels so cramped.
The ones I have thought about so far include the dell 6000d (but the x300 SUCKS and i wish they had another choice), the 9300 (might be too big), the toshiba m60 (again, big, but quite powerful) and going in the complete other direction, a 15inch powerbook w/ superdrive. If I have my desktop machine and a nice lcd, my 9500pro will suffice for the little gaming i will do (and chances are, since its law school, my time will be limited and I'll most likely stick to consoles).
What other machines are out there? I am Canadian so those nifty dell $750 deals don't work for me.
2) LCD. I would love to be able to afford a 2001fp or something, but its not likely. They have the E193FP and the 1905FP, but there is $100 price difference between the 2. http://accessories.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=ca&category_id=4009&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs
Other than Dell, I've read that BenQ makes decent lcd's that don't cost a ton. Any others I should look at? I think I'll need a 19 to make up for the loss of 2x17" crt's (I dont want to pay to ship them, since I'm not taking much with me).
3) Digital Camera. Hexon has a Canon a95 and I've used it and love it, takes awesome pictures. However, I won't be printing off huge posters and the 5 megapixels might be overkill. Are the replacements for the a75 and a85 any good? What other companies make decent cameras? My family owns a nikon coolpix from a few years ago, and it's ok, but the features are a little short I find and the quality is ok but not 'great'. This will mostly be for just those random nights out and taking around, so size might be a factor.
Any input is MUCH appreciated, especially if you are canadian and have any experience with dell's back to school deals. I don't know when they start usually, and I'm not sure when I should buy all this stuff for maximum savings.

So I got my new car on Monday (Volvo V50 - lol soccer mom) and they had it all polished and shiny when I collected it. Well...it's black, so it's already collecting dust and I want it to be shiny forever! Only problem is that I didn't take very good care of our other car and now I'm obsessed with finding the best car cleaning products around.
Through my research I have found this tuff called Zaino (http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc) and the results from their products look stunning and the testimonials are certainly inspiring, but I have really no idea if these are the only products that will produce such great results. I need a sanity check or other recommendations!

My room is about 12m². When I turn on my swamp cooler the air smells like water, maybe humidity is increased (I don't have a tool for measuring). I wonder whether that can be bad for my computer/crt/tv and so on.
