by Steve Gibson, Jul 14, 2005 1:18pm PDTSo as luck would have it for people looking for a job in gaming both candidates we had in mind for the new position here arent going to work out. But I guess it's time to break some hearts! So here we are, in need of a new guy. Have a look at the job description

Gotta dig up my resume and update it. I've got the experience and the professionalism down. Hmm, so I think I'll give it a shot.
I don't know why I'm telling all of you this.
So root for me, damnit.

Oh well, I doubt I have the experience required for such a billet anyway. I'd just love to have a job like that. That's all.

1) Please poach someone from idlethumbs.net. I love the writing at that site and they seem like the best representative of the non-IGN/Gamespy direction that you appear to aspire to.
2) Please hire someone from a non-Quake/etc background. Sometimes the focus of the news output gets a bit old-school - E3 time stood out especially as "id game, Unreal Engine game, id engine game, Epic game, game by company that used to use id's engines, another Unreal engine game, etc." It's not always like that, of course (and yes I know the history of the site and all that). Different backgrounds = variety in focus = things stay fresh.
3) Please hire a girl. Female = totally different attitude = variety in focus, as above. It's hard to describe without sounding sexist, or without making it sexual.
3a) Don't tell anyone they're a girl or the e-flirting will be insufferable.

I've got the experience and willingness but it wouldn't work out :(
- Console and PC industry knowledge. Not just games, but the guys and companies who make them. No clue here
- Writing ability with a firm grasp of grammar and a habit of using spellcheck How does the word fuck play into that?
- Maturity. We are goofy bastards but oddly enough there is a difference. Maybe
- Experience! Doh
- Experience! Still fucked unless you count my worthless post history as experience
Whoever lands this gig has a cherry job and the best to them.

OR, maybe I'll drop out of graduate school to sit around the house all day, eating corn chips and masturbating to internet porn.
Or maybe, just maybe, i'll do both...
Kidding, kidding. I love my job.

God, if I was qualified, I'd work for the Shack for next to nothing. What with the travel, game writeoffs, and just the fact that I'd get to write about something I love.... 25 - 50k a year seems like an insane bonus. :)

I don't know enough about the industry though. But good luck to whoever gets it!
Heck even 30K a year to write for a game site is a sweet deal.
