There's a new community update on the official Battlefield 2 website, acknowledging that the recently released 1.01 patch for the game introduces a memory leak. The team is working on a hotfix for the problem, but in the mean time EA recommends downgrading back to the retail release. Reinstalling will not affect your medals or rankings.

  • How is this possible? Something leaks, fix it!
If it is that obvious, why did they release it ?
It seems like it leaks when loading levels.

After loading 3-4 different levels on my 1gig mem machine, it choked!
I had to quit because the game became unplayable.

Memory leaks are hard to debug, but if they did everything right, they wouldn't be into this problem. Like having reference counting, smart pointers etc.

It feels like BF2 is kinda rushed out if you ask me.
I mean, the player tag display is a VERY obvious bug. I guess they don't know what causes it, maybe they got lost in code?

I can't imagine that BF2 is rewritten, it seems like it is all patched up ( like adding engine features etc ).
I can't even begin to imagine how much hacks and inconsistencies it must be in that engine!

If you rush out a product that is built (literally) on an existing framework that was not intended to support feature x y z, you are asking for trouble.
