Battlefield 2 1.01 Patch Released
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 06, 2005 12:06pm PDTAs expected, the Battlefield 2 1.01 patch is now available. The 13mb download takes care of the following issues
- Fixed in issue that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive. - Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu. - Fixed an issue with increasing performance degradation on servers. - Fixed a problem with shader caching on client/host : after the first map in a rotation, shaders would be loaded on the fly during gameplay. - Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB - Fixed a problem that caused environment mapping to not appear on reflective surfaces. - Fixed a crash that happened when a client picks up a kit that doesn't exist anymore. - Fixed a problem with AI when the game was paused for a long time: bots would become unresponsive and also shoot more accurately. - LOD distances tweaked on certain objects.

not their fault you guys are all their bitches. they've got you hooked on this game and look at you. it's like dangling a pound of crack in front of a fiend on 14th and 1st ave.
and to all of you blaming EA... EA is the publisher of this game, smarty pantses. DICE is developing it.

I don't know for the other bugs people are still having, I didn't play yet. I was just curious to see if they fixed the controls. But still, I could launch the game and it didn't crash in the menu or the browser.
Leave game. No sound on anything else either. Restart machine. Sound again. Start game. No sound.
THE GAME CRASHES MY SYSTEM'S SOUND WTFWTWTF
Finally join a game, still no sound. 3 seconds on the server, the game crashes to desktop.
This is the buggiest game ever. EVER.

I think I found the files to remove the lines and get the numpad ones to work, is it:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings\Profiles\Default\Controls ???
there are 4 files there and each has:
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PICameraX IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad6 IDKey_Numpad4
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PICameraY IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad8 IDKey_Numpad2
which do I delete??? all instances of them? rghh

Go into your ASE folder and open filters.txt. Search for "Battlefield 2". Change the JoinTemplate line to:
JoinTemplate: {EXEPATH} +restart 1 +joinServer {ip} +port {port} [ +password "{PASSWORD}"]
Then delete the whole JoinMsg line. There should be an update either today or tomorrow (most likely tomorrow), but until then, you can launch into games using this method.

The game slows down a lot in certain situations. The Demo map was fine 99% of the time (even with 64 players), but the final version dips below 20 FPS a lot on big servers. Is there anything I can do to fix this? All my settings are low, 1024*768 resolution.
In CSS I had similar problems, but a tweak that decreased the polygon count for models helped a lot.

The multi browser seems to be a crap ton better, but still needs work. Took me a while to find a decent server with low ping, but it was running great even with 64 players.
