First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 20, 2005 3:22am PDTJust last year I bought a new electric fan to at least somewhat cool this room off during the summer, and yesterday was the first time this year I needed it again. So yeah .. in the months I didn't use it it broke. Mechanics wise its fine but some plastic bits that kept the fan casing in place just tore off when I turned the fan off last night. And yeah I'm pretty sure I dont want to leave the fan blades in the open and cut myself which is just bound to happen. The thing was kinda pricey too so this is pretty much a bummer. Movie: You know what's remarkable? That England looks in no way like Southern California.

You know what cartoon rocks? Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (on Cartoon Network). You why the episode I'm watching rocks especially hard? It's a bowling episode and they just had a Dude cameo. Actually, it was The Dude, Walter, and Donny. That, my friends, owns.

Who's getting it, and why?
I wasn't interested in it until I spent all week playing and now I'm kinda hooked. But I swore off of EA games some time ago, and now I'm trying to make a decision.

Just wanted to give everyone one last reminder that I'll be guest staring on TLC tonight @ 9PM E\P on "Untold Stories of the ER"
I'm actually a little nervous to see how it turns out.
Once again, here is the trailer for it.

I just finished reading the book a few days back. I loved its more realistic approach to space travel, you travel fast and time dilation occurs. Its vision of the future was also an interesting one to say the least. With homosexuality become the normal way for humans to be and heterosexuality being counted as a deviance from the norm.
I could actually see that happening if population keeps on rising, homosexuality is a more 'humane' way of population control compared to sterilization.
The point that i agree with it or not is an entirely different issue. I just found the book pretty thought provoking, and a very good read.
Next up is In Death Ground by David Weber. I had started reading that long time back and loved it but ended up loosing it in the university someplace.
Any other good Sci fi opera i should read ?

I've heard of "Tommy John" surgery in baseball where they do a full ligament replacement in the elbow.
In walks a 17 year old kid into my office who's just had this done! :(
What in the world could this kid have done to need such major surgery at such a young age?

Here's a Swedish specialty, a kind of smoked sausage called "isterband" that I split and fill with chopped beetroots, red onion, parsley and chive, put into the oven for 15 minutes. Pretty bad for me so I shouldn't make it again. It's supposed to not have that raped look but that's just my trademark there. I never have time to rig up a proper photoshoot if I want to eat it while it's hot so it doesn't look as tasty as it is.

Anybody seen that video? I can understand the first guy hitting the van...but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th? The road looked dry, and peoples' brake lights were on - I really don't why they came flying in so fast with very little breaking, holy shit!

I was just reminiscing with a good friend about all the good times had playing Quake II on Dwango and Ten. Jeez, it must've been 8 years ago.
There has to be a boatload of old schoolers here. What year did you folks start playing online games? What games were they? For me, it was Warcraft II and the original Quake.

He spent some time explaining his sport - "Michael Jordan's the best basketball player in the world. Tiger Woods - the best golfer. How would they do in my arena? Not very good." and "A boxer trains in the ring, a track star trains on the track, me? I train at the buffet."
He then goes on to explain that he's been to 4 buffets during the week and proceeds to demolish a plate of beans, rice, and macaroni & cheese. He also ate around 30 of those little packets of peanuts on the plane.
What the fuck.

Can anyone do better? :)
The Torso in the Town - A Fethering Mystery
By Simon Brett
3/5. Decent enough, but not really all that interesting or mysterious. I personally found the characters annoying, but that may just be a cultural gap. Not really motivated to read the rest of the fethering series.
Life Expectancy
By Dean Koontz
4/5. A solid book with likable characters and good, dark humor (which I like). Kept me interested all the way through. A 4/5 for me is almost as good a rating as I can give to any book that isn't legendary.
Anyone else read any good books lately? I'm heading to the library tomorrow to see what's out there and could use some suggestions. I read Angels and Demons last week, and have Di Vinci's Code on hold, so my Dan Brown quota is kind of full for the time being. Anything else?

"He was like, 'You gotta find a good woman. Not too smart, not too dumb. Not too old, not too young. In the middle. One that can cook and clean. Then you thank her, and you go...' And Saddam smiled and made the gesture of bending a woman over and spanking her, as if to say: This is how you keep her in line," one soldier said.
lol Saddam, you jokester

sci-fi book for free download. Apparently a series of short stories about a few generations of a family, and the effects becoming 'post-human' has on them. I don't know the author, so I can't recommend it, but I thought someone might be interested.

I'm pretty happy with the first 26 percent so far. Married, having kids in the next few years. Making ok money. Need to move so I can afford a house. Have a dog. So far, I give Life v. JEP a 8/10.
Life loses 1 point cuz I'm fat and hearing impaired, and 1 point cuz the wife doesn't like having sex with other chicks. Other than that, I'm set.

In New Zealand and Australia the word "bags" is used as frequently as dibs, and has much the same meaning. When calling bags, one will not usually include the word "on" - "Bags ____ing" is used in the case of verbs, and "Bags the ____" in the case of nouns. Bags is of particular use in opting out of an undesirable task, when saying "Bags not me" before anyone else in the group will exclude one from having to do that task. Young children often use bags in this way in the song "Turn around, touch the ground, bags not me!"

Just got my iPod replaced (HDD went bad in the old one) and now I'm looking for a way to preserve the sexy glossy sheen (but mostly to get a belt clip). Any cases that you'd recommend?
I don't really know why the iPod cases are generally so expensive (perhaps because it's being marketed for Apple products, so they're allowed to gouge the consumer), but I'd like to get a case that doesn't cost much, still looks good, protects reasonably well, and has a belt clip.
So I just ordered a 1GB SODimm for my Powerbook.. and Crucial are bundling a DVD copy of Far Cry with it. (with any orders over £55 actually)
lol
I might send the copy of far cry in the direction of another shacker, being that I already have it....
So, in this thread you justify receiving a free copy of far cry to me :-

All I can think of is that Matrix console game. It was like half a game. Biggest waste of money ever.
