Gamespy should be BANNED from the Internet!

Reasons:
The BF2 in-game browser, which is "Powered by Gamespy" works like shit.

Takes 5 weeks to scroll through the list.
Sometimes it never responds.
Cant even ALT-TAB out to kill the god damn game.

Gamespy... I will never give you one dime.

I need some major help. Someone else previously asked this question but I can't find it. I had it for a while and it worked fine, then one day I tried connecting to a server and it said connecting in a little window for a while but then brought me right back to the server window, this happens with every server. So I figured hmm I will try and uninstall and reinstall. I could not uninstall at all. I ended up deleting the folder and everything that I could find that had something to do with battlefield on my computer. I also went through with regedit and searched for battlefield and deleted everything off the registry (after I burned the demo to a disc and deleted that). Now I still can't install, it gives me the "preparing to install" screen, but then just kind of flickers and then the screen that has the battlefield 2 logo just shows a part of it and then eventually goes away after about 5 seconds. Please please any help would be better than what I am at now. I am so desperate that I will give out my email address it's zeropaid06@gmail.com you can either email me or post here. Thank you.

More tips and tricks!

To get FPS drawn ingame, pop up the console (key left of 1 for me) and type:
renderer.drawFps 1
The console tab-completes, so just type ren and hit tab (possibly twice) for a short list of stuff.

To try out some of the unlockable kits, locate:
\Battlefield 2 Demo\python\bf2\stats\unlocks.py
And in that file find the line:
defaultUnlocks = [0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0]
and change it into:
defaultUnlocks = [1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1]

This will allow you to try one alternative weapon for each class in single player only. Possibly the server can be hacked to allow everyone to get this online as well.

The USMC SpecOps new weapon is awesome.

Has anyone else had this problem? I was playing fine all weekend untill last night. The game just crashed to desktop. Now when I go back in I use the painful game browser to find a server (mouse works np). I join the server ok. However at the kit selection and spawn screen my mouse pointer is just frozen. I alt-tab and have to click once on my desktop to get mouse working again and end the process (BF2.exe process is eating over 512MB or memory ack).

I have only tried reinstalling the game and have not removed/reinstalled it. It was late and I needed to sleep anyway.

Anyone else have this issue? Mouse is a logi mx500. PC AMD64 3200 w/ 1GB ram ATI 9600xt

Quick performance question:

I have a barton 2500+ clocked at 3200+, with an x800 XT, with 1 gig of pc3200 ddr ram. I play bf2 at 1280x960 with 4xaa and everything on high, and I get around 50-60fps at all times, which is great.

BUT

The studdering makes the game almost unplayable, sometimes, literally, the game will stop for 4 or 5 seconds and then I will appear several feet in front of where I was. Also, there are many smaller studders consistently while playing. I get a studder often at least once every 10 seconds. Is this a RAM issue? While playing my hard drive never really stops reading (the light keeps going) and I have no problems with any other games (css etc).

Any ideas before I go out and buy another gig of ram?

The in game server browser is absolute dog shit. The menu is so annoyingly slow. We're talking "feels like the first time you tried to run win95 on that 486 with 4 megs of ram."

Gameplay is great, but if you don't have a wicked menu system it turns me off. I'm sitting here looking at that BF2 icon thinking do I want to put up with that menu BS again?

And how is it that once in game it takes a good 3-4 seconds for the menu to reappear when i hit ESC? Since when should I have to wait for a menu to load? I am way more for a simple menu like the Source engine has then some fancy good for nothing menu we got here.

Sorry DICE, don't mean to be harsh on you b/c you put out solid gameplay, but that menu is puke.

Wow, I just downloaded the demo. Its lightyears ahead better than 1942. I played 1942 for 2 hours and never touched it since but this is really good.

The only problem is that I can't strafe and sprint forward at the same time. Is this a bug or something? Its pretty annoying that I'm being chased by enemy gunfire and I'm dead because I run behind a corner.

Do you guys think it's a problem that i prefer to play defensively? i really like hanging back and protecting and holding points rather then pushing forward to the next one though i can do that as needed. Does this preference work with the BF2 squad feature well? as in i could use my squad to hang back spotting enemies and holding already capped flags etc?

i want to be useful but i also would rather stay on the perimeter of the action rather then be in the middle of it. Though if i were put in a good squad that had specific tasks (and would do them) then i would be more then fine following orders and being offensive.

Also, who all did i blow up with C4 last night?

Just an update to a (now) fixed problem:

I got the message: "D3DX9_25.dll not found"

Well, here was my fix (after 48 hours of working on it I want to share.) Ya see, WinXP service pack 2 thinks it knows everything, but it doesn't. I tried new drivers, new DX installs (April SDK and Redist version), inserting the file manually, reformats (with all the updates of course) but that never cured a thing. Unfortunately here was the answer to my problem...

WinXP + Service Pack +1, plus DX9.0c install afterwards.

Everything works fine now, as long as I don't install service pack 2. The moment I do, BF2 won't run at all and I get the same error message. Id oubt I helped many people, but I HAD to tell you what my fix was since it took me forever to figure out.

Okay finally here's how to remove all those "phantom" bound keys that you can't unbind within BF2.

Go to
My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles

Open up Global.con

Note which profile it's using (I Default, 0001 and 0002 and mine was set to 0002)

Open up Controls.con

If you look at the top line for each subsection, it says Infantry, Land, Air, Helicopter, Sea, and Default. Each is pretty self explanatory with the exception of Default. I believe this is what ingame calls "Common".

The bound key is at the end of the line

IDKey_Key Name Here

Delete the whole line of the occupied keys you want to change. OR Change it to an unused key of your choice. Some of them were probably taken out last minute (like Left Alt was set to Toggle 3D Map but there is no way to change that ingame. and X is set for Flare in Sea. Can you even fire a flare in a boat? I never tried.)

Save the file.

Now you can bind them ingame.

Enjoy.

Anybody have any suggestions to help fix the punkbuster related bs? I either get an error about empty win32 modules after a few min of play, or it locks my computer up. I have disabled DEP, and went back the the ati 5.1 drivers as they suggested to fix texture stuff. I cant manage to play for more than 10min max before the pb error or what I think will be the error showing up and my computer locks up.

Weird problem all of a sudden... the demo has been great, except now when I try to start it, I only get a black screen. The screen isn't off or in power-saving mode...but it displays only black. It plays the usual menu music where you have to login to your account and all, so, wtf?

Anyone have this problem? After playing for awhile game will crash hard, sound stutters, mouse stutters, even continues after closing the BF2 process. Then im forced to reboot to get my system back to normal, have a 2400+, 6800GT, 1gig ram...using the drivers the demo came with.

But, how do I get my mic working if I skipped the mic setup in the installation process? Now when I run that app it doesn't save my settings, so I can't get my mic working. Wtf.

nVidia Users Experience Constant Freezing/Stuttering

First, to understand the issue, it occurs in many games after you upgrade to the 7x.xx series of drivers. Battlefield 2 asks you update to the 77.30 release which fixes some shadow issues in the game. Don't do the upgrade. If you already have or already installed some 7x.xx drivers, revert back to 66.93 which is available in the archive section of nVidia's site.

Instead, just disable dynamic shadows in the options. The game won't be as pretty, but it at least doesn't have obvious graphical flaws.

Hopefully nVidia will address this issue at one point, but it's been problem ever since the card was released almost a full year ago.

I'm going to be playing this game all damn day long :D

I finally got to try my hand at being commander the other night and ended up with over 40 artillery kills. Its fucking awesome when you prep two full squads to be positioned outside of an enemy base, then rain down hell on that base, and send squads in to attack. There were some awesome guys playing last night- Silent Wolf and Kaiser each had their own squads that were trying to follow my frantic orders. We ended up losing but it was close 16-0.

Its hard for me to express my <3 for this game without sounding like a rambling fanboy too late but seriously- this game kicks ass.

Say: all the screenshots i've seen of the full version, while nice, all have desert enviroments. One of the neatest things about BF1942 was that one level your tank fighting in the snowy forest of the Ardennes while in the next your squishing japanese in Wake island with a jeep. I'd better be able to go commando with a squad in a jungle level or....or....i'll weep like a schoolgirl! don't make me do it!

Damnit, damn game keeps just dumping to the desktop for no apparent reason every time. No rhyme or reason, it just quits. I wish there was some sort of running log file to give me a clue, I never had this problem with 42, it always ran stable as a rock. Other than that, they managed to capture the feel of a giant ass battlefield very well. They made the game that Joint Ops wanted to be.

Spec Ops menz

As a spec ops how many C4's does it typically take to blow a tank? An apc?

As it is right now, i ususally lay 4/5 c4s on a tank and then blow, but now i think that its overkill, can it be done with 2?
