DICE New York Closed
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 07, 2005 7:55am PDTDigital Illusions CE today announced that it is closing its New York office, which employed former members of Trauma Studios after DICE had purchased the Desert Combat developer last September. All 12 people have been offered employement at the Sweden office. DICE's Canadian studio will remain open, and focus mainly on expansion packs. Closing DICE New York allows the company to save some money
Digital Illusions will not pay the supplement payment of 200,000 USD as agreed upon at the time of the acquisition of Trauma Studios. The total payment is thereby 300,000 USD. Following the adjustment for the default of payment of the additional supplement payment, the SEK 1.3m remainder of the value of goodwill is written down during the second quarter of 2005. Other costs of liquidation are diminutive. So why buy Trauma Studios at all? "The deal contained value in form of rights to trademarks as well as a new game concept". A few more details about the closing can be found at GameCloud.

Trauma Studios did very nice work and I thought it's their great chance being bought by Dice....

Ya'll have to let go of those long-e pronounciations.
Ahhh, the prospects of opening a studio across the river in BROOKLYN. But, I'm no venture capitalist (not yet at least), nor do I know any.
Like someone else wrote here, NYC has some brilliant, brilliant artists/conceptual folks (my roommate and a friend of mine are stunning new york industry artists, but alas have no spots because everything is... located on the west syyde).
What would it take to get a industry revolution in NYC? A lot. But the trend in the industry has been nicely bucked by Rockstar. Here's hoping a surge in nyc based developers takes off.
I love NY.

Bahahahha. Right. Even though I can't think of a better way for EA to give their community the finger, no one (me included) is going to actually not buy their game.

Divided between the 12 of them it comes to about 39k a person.

There's a good reason why there are few or no game developers located in NYC. I'm always surprised more don't put up offices in Canada and take advantage of the dollar difference.
