Bohemia Interactive Studio today officially announced Armed Assault, though it's not a renamed Operation Flashpoint 2 as we previously reported. Instead it's a new franchise, though like OpFlashpoint, Armed Assault is about realistic combat gaming.

Get ready to explore massive environments. Combat intelligent enemies that try to outthink and outmaneuver you. ....this is the greatest news ever. Ofp2 > everything else at e3. I'm sure 99 percent of you guys disagree...but then you probably haven't pumped in at least 200+ hours into the game toying with new addons, effects, islands, mods, multiplayer co-op, and mission editor. I ask you: how many games let you pick a nice area of a scenic town and see what happens when you set two rival tank platoons, 3 squadrons of attack helicopters,4 rival fire teams, 2 mobile infantry squads,a bunch of hapless civilians and a oh anti aircraft batteries right next to each other?

Yessiree..."Ofp2" -or whatever its called- can't come soon enough. I'll probaly end up buying AA and Xbox ofp to satisfy my desire for it.

Can someone do a quick compare/contrast between BF and OpF?

The seem very similar to me in concept, only OpF seemed to trade off graphical quality for a much much larger battlefiled.

From a friend of mine, an Ofp fanboy who almost live in the official forums:

It's not a new saga, it's more like Ofp 1.5 with improved graphics and a new campaign. And new features, like join to a multiplayer game running.

I don't know why everybody is complaining about the graphics, they look fine to me. Outdoor games can't have graphics like Doom 3 for a reason...however it's not like they're bad or anything. With 100 square miles to explore cooperatively with friends taking down squads of terrorists, I don't think I'll care about these graphics at all. In fact, I think they're actually pretty good. Check it out: http://www.bistudio.com/games/aa/AA2.jpg Ground and sky textures are pretty low resolution but look at everything else, models in particular: http://www.bistudio.com/games/aa/AA1.jpg They aren't that bad. :P

Doesn't look that much better than the original OFP. Graphically it's just about on par. Maybe gameplay will make up for the crappy graphics :-)

So? Does anyone know anything?

Their website hasn't been updated (other than the press release.) It still has OFP2 and it doesn't have Armed Assault. (In the 'in progress' section.)

It looks like it's modern, (which is good), instead of VietNam (which isn't what I wanted), but too bad it's not 'near future' (which would have been great.)

Maarten said it's not OFP2 renamed. Does that mean they are doing both, or did they scrap OFP2 to make this instead?

I wish them nothing but success...and hopefully the multiplayer works better this time. I really want to have huge Army vs Army battles with full human tank crews on each side. (And voice comms built into the game...so you can talk to your army, or just your crew....yeah, that would rock.)

Yeah, it doesnt look very next gen.. but ya know the gameplay was really good in the first game so if it stays the same then i'll be ok with it.. but lets hope that they do make the graphics slightly better
