Battlefield 2 Hands-On
by Alec Matias, May 14, 2005 8:56am PDTIGN was able to get some play time with DICE's upcoming PC war game that brings the series into the modern age of combat. The preview covers much of the game, including the new Commander feature. The game is still expected at the end of June.
The Commander is a really important member of the team and truly will be the leader of a combined force for those willing to play the game as a team. He or she has several abilities to help out the team. Firstly, they get to view the battlefield from a top down persepctive and they know where all the squads are at all times. He/she can watch the map, scan for enemy locations and let squad leaders know where to go and what to look for. Squad leaders can then disseminate that information to their respective squad. ... Along with a simple scan, the commander can also send out an unmanned drone to spy on a certain location. This only lasts for a short time, but allows all friendly units to see what the drone sees, giving players a much better look at enemy positions than what simple vocal communication allows for. Along with the UAV, the commander can drop supply crates, which act like a combined med and ammo box, refilling anyone in the radius. The crate can be destroyed though, so if enemies are smart, they may shoot it from the air before enemies can even get a hold of it.

I have it in my hands, and it is exactly the same as the UT2004 Special Edition headset.

People standing around waiting for them to spawn, that infantry war just wasn't there.
Point system looks cool, now if they just limited certain vechicals require a certain amount of points in order to access them, then that would rock.

the new points system seems cool.
4 pts for flag caps (2 for grey, 2 for take)
2 for kills
1 for assist (kill or cap)
1 for 100 pts healed
1 for driving a vehicle where gunner gets a kill (assist)
1 for reviving
also, your team doesn't lose tickets when someone dies and is revived instead of respawning. medics are really useful now, eh? :P
