So far I'm not that impressed. :[
Ninja Gaiden, while cool, is unnecessarily hard to play because of the Xbox's poor controller design. The buttons are just set up so awkwardly, and they're much too difficult to depress. I want to cry and run back to my Gamecube every time I pick one up.
Halo 2 is fun, but man the hype machine runs deep with Halo games. Nothing revolutionary here, and playing FPS games on a console is like strangling babies with feather boas. It's just inherently contrary to all natural thought. Although I will say co-op and multiplayer are good times. Any game that gives me co-op these days deserves lots of credit.
I'm gonna try out Burnout 3 and maybe Jade Empire in the next few days. Overall though, for me, Nintendo first party games > * still, and the Xbox running on my 57" HDTV is not a large enough visual markup to drool over in terms of third party comparisons.

I will be purchasing a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS on Monday. I was thinking about lookin' into modding. Since I've never modded a car before, I was curious if any of you fine folks here at Shacknews would be able to point me to a good website that would offer some mods for the 2003 Eclipse GS. Thank you in advance! =D

He rented out a theatre here in a Eugene for a 12am, May 19th showing of the movie after the concert only for people who come to the concert. Never heard of anyone doing anything like this - but it should be good times.

This thing and prey, still look like doom3. Is the engine specifically engineered to use dynamic lights only and not support self lit polygons? If anybody can ever get this engine to make a big outdoor area ala Half Life2 I will be impressed, otherwise it seems to be a niche "dark survival horror" game engine....

The Question: What is the announcement?
I hereby, forewith and presently announce a BF1942 Shackbattle for Sunday, May 8, 6:00 PM PST (9:00 PM EST)!
We'll be playing BF1942 v1.61 on hirez & themelon's 64-player uberserver: hirez.themelon.org:14567 - password is in themelon's profile.
We'll also be using Teamspeak. EVERYONE should be on Teamspeak, at least to listen even if you don't have a mic. We'll be connecting to rydogg1's server: 38.113.32.180 - no password required.
Last week we had a very manageable 37 people or so, and the games were great. We've gotten a few BF1942 newbies involved. If you're new to the game and need training or help, I (and several others) will be happy to spend all the time you need walking you through the different classes, weapons, tactics, etc. Just let me know!
All right, here's the batch of useful download links if you don't have them:
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=4501 (BF1942 anything -> 1.6)
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5928 (BF1942 1.6 -> 1.61)
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5284 (Shack map pack)
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=6351 (EA Tournament map pack)
http://www.toldyouimhardcore.com/umax/ShackTraining.zip (Shack training map, which will be running before the battle for training purposes)
http://www.goteamspeak.com/ (Teamspeak homepage)
http://www.redhavana.net/teamspeak/ (cpt_gloval's guide to setting up Teamspeak -- a bit out of date, but still useful)
http://www.qbnut.com/tso/ (Teamspeak Overlay, puts the usernames of those who speak onto your screen. Has caused stability issues for a few people in the past)
See you there! F2 F2!
p.s. It gets tiresome trying to bump these all the time, but if it doesn't happen, we don't get turnout. So if you like the game, help keep this bumped/reposted.

With Teeth: Meh; it's like all the bits of The Fragile that I didn't like.
Beside You in Time: My favorite song on the album so far; reminds me of Just Like You Imagined.
Right Where It Belongs: Nice "requiem" track.
The Line Begins to Blur: Nice mix of acoustic and synth.
Only: Where's the synth? Am I listening to a Motorola or Citroën commercial soundtrack candidate?
Getting Smaller: Oh, there's the synth. And there's more anger. Reminds me a little of Stabbing Westward's "Falls Apart".
Sunspots: Same anger, a little less synth, but enough to keep it good.
All the Love in the World: Not bad, but doesn't really strike a chord with me. A bit like a tame "Where is Everybody?"
There's one major cop-out: instead of the full booklet with artwork, lyrics, and complete credits, there's a line that says: "COMPLETE INFORMATION: www.nin.com/with_teeth "
And then there's the FBI warning WITHAH TEETHAH on the back. My CDJ-800 seems to be chugging on this, so there's a chance that there's copy protection WITHAH TEETHAH on the redbook side. Well, at least it plays, unlike other schemes years ago.

Working at my new job on campus led me to find an XBOX in the trashbin. I plugged the sucker in and it came right up. The only problem is that when I turn it on the cdrom makes a slight clicking noise and it asks for the date. So I figure the rom drive might be broken (it has no controllers so i cant get past the date input part). I heard you can send it into Microsoft and they will refurbish it for 50 dollars, where do I send it to and do I need to send anything else with it?
Watched it from beginning up until the people get 'dropped off'...
now there's a commercial...
Is it worth continuing or should I go play Forza?
It seems ok up until now but I'm afraid it's going to get cheezy real quick-like...
So what newish game should I get? Or should I get a few classics (never played NOLF/NOLF2 or FarCry).
What say you shack?

Any dota fans in the audience?
I just had the most awesome game of dota since I started playing it. Full team of friends, playing allpick (with us randoming, best way to get a good match we've found). Enemy team picked all nasty heroes (venom, lich, clinkz, lucifer, enigma), we had ah... keeper, techies, visage, stealth, and leoric. Went an hour and a half, pretty much everyone at max level, constant vicious stalemate in the center with deaths going back and forth. I've played other long games, and I've played other good games, but this was the best as far as quality of opponents and difficulty of match.
Haven't had that much fun since serious games of q2ctf I think. Pretty awesome stuff.
For those of you who have no clue wtf I'm talking about, Dota (Defense of the Ancients) is a user created map for Warcraft3/FT, based on a bunch of maps stretching back to starcraft (who knows who stole from whom). Two teams of five compete to destroy the others base, each player controls one hero. The creeps are controlled by the cpu, so its purely hero control, not a normal rts (indeed, several of my friends who play don't play any rts games). It's deathmatch more or less... There's like 50+ heroes, 4 abilities per hero, 25 levels, tons of items (that can be combined to form more powerful items), blah blah blah. Check it out. It kicks ass :)

It has come to my attention that Counter-Strike is the gateway drug of games. People who've never played PC games see it and think it's cool, and play it for years without really trying other, better games. Like UT. UT has no downtime, no reloading, no stupid inaccurate guns, and the Flak Cannon. No silly repetitive rounds where everyone rushes the same way like lemmings only to be mowed down by the other team. It even has maps that don't suck and that aren't (always) played over and over and over and over and over and over. There's even fewer annoying little kids! And there's kickass people who play it like dognose and Giggles and lacker and Zero|DPX and that bipolar guy and me!
It is the best. It is the crack of games.
Drug references aside, the moral of the story is that you all need to PLAY MORE UT!!!

Side note: A lot of people talk about the DVP642. I don't need the DivX playing feature, but I guess it's a nice bonus. Is the image quality good? If I put multiple DivX files on a DVDR, can I choose which one I want it to play?

How wonderful I thought, to not have to wait for it to get released in the UK, and to be able to get it shipped from the US.
How curious, I thought, as I opened the box and found 5 CDs all in individual sleeves rather than some kind of combo-box.
So I took the CDs out of their sleeves and stacked them ready to install. Wait, what's this?
Disc 1, disc 2, disc 2, disc 3, disc 5.
Well that's fucking} great.
