Age of Conan Announced

by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 20, 2005 1:07pm PDT

Anarchy Online developer Funcom today announced that it is working on Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, an online action RPG scheduled to be released in 2006. The game will feature a singleplayer component as well as a massively multiplayer one. The website is up featuring a FAQ, a list of features and a set of screenshots.

In Conan the players will encounter a dark, lush, violent and sinful universe, presented in fantastic graphics and stunning 7.1 surround audio. In a world filled with cruel gods, mythical creatures, lost civilizations and a struggling human race, the mighty barbarian has finally seized the throne as king of Aquilonia. But Conan's rule is on the brink of chaos, spiraling towards the doom of ancient evils. In this twisted fantasy world, dark magic and brutal combat lurks around every corner, and each man and woman must carve their own unique destiny under Conan's reign. In the true vision of Robert E. Howard's dark universe it's now time for you to become a messenger of death.

  • Not related to the game, but taken from the site's forum - possible new Conan movie scrapped for time being:

"King Conan: Crown of Iron: Looks like hopes of seeing this third "Conan" on adventure have been dashed. IGN FilmForce reports that John Milius, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Larry and Andy Wachowski and Warner Brothers have all been given the shaft from working on the project in pretty much any capacity. Seems that Conan Properties Inc., the company that owns the Conan character, has decided not to allow Warners or the Wachowski's to renew their option on the film rights - an option that's apparently about to expire. The company is allegedly upset with how long the project was taking to develop, whilst the Wachowski's ongoing commitment to finishing "The Matrix" sequels meant it wouldn't have advanced any faster. However the project isn't entirely dead, CP Inc. wants to develop "a kinder, gentler Conan" which'll use "The Scorpion King" as a template (ie. they want a PG-13 family safe adventure). "
